Eugene Johnson, 77, of Valdosta, passed away Saturday morning Nov. 24, 2012 at his residence after a short illness. He was born Sept. 1, 1935 in Moultrie to the late William Ira Johnson and Marie Harrod Johnson. Mr. Johnson served his country in the United States Air Force and was a member of Bemiss Road Baptist Church in Valdosta. Mr. Johnson enjoyed fishing (catching and eating) and gardening, and was very active with his church family and helped maintain the beatification of the church grounds. He was an active member of the Disabled American Veterans, and enjoyed traveling with the Senior Citizens. He is preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Gina Marie Johnson, brother, Joseph Ira Johnson, and a sister, Peggy Ann Clark.
Survivors Include: Wife Evelyn G. Snipes Johnson, Valdosta, daughter Sandra L. Hamel, Valdosta, daughter and son-in-law Julie Diana and Anthony Harris, Newton Grove, N.C., grandchildren-, Rebecca Faith Bridges, Newton Grove, N.C., Robert A. Jr. and Laurel Hamel, Chattanooga, Tenn., Stacie Ann and John Chvatal, Lawrenceville, James Anthony II and Adina Harris, Newton Grove, N.C., Shelley Lynn and Eugene O’Rourke, St. Augustine, Fla. great grandchildren- 15, sister and brother-in-law Mary Faye and Ed Moore, Hahira, and a number of nieces and nephews
Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 26, 2012 in the Chapel of Music Funeral Services in Valdosta with Dr. Danny Edwards officiating. Burial will follow in New Ramah Cemetery in Ray City. Visitation will be held Sunday, Nov. 25, 2012 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in Music Funeral Services of Valdosta. In Lieu of flowers donations can be made to Bemiss Road Baptist Church Building Fund, 3307 Bemiss Road, Valdosta, GA. 31605.
