VALDOSTA —
Donald Wayne Lewis, 71, of Jennings, Fla., passed away unexpectedly Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012, at his home. Wayne was born in Jennings, Fla., on Feb. 25, 1941, to the late James Darrell Lewis and Mrs. Eddie Johns Lewis. He was a lifelong resident of Hamilton County and graduated from Jennings High School. In 1966, he married Eula Starling and started his family. Wayne retired from Occidental Chemical Company (PCS). He continued to work hard around the farm as long as he was able. He loved Go-Kart racing and the fellowship that came with it. He was a man with a big tough exterior and while he could be tough when he needed to be, he is remembered for having a big heart and a gentle spirit as well. He had a way with people and put that gift to work helping others without making them feel needy. He was respected in his community and will be missed by all that knew him. Wayne was preceded in death by a grandson, Tyler Rogers.
Survivors include his wife, Eula Lewis; his son, Donnie Lewis and his daughter-in-law, Rhonda; his daughter, Karen Lewis; a brother, John Lewis, all of Jennings, Fla..; grandson, D.W. Lewis and a granddaughter, Tayler Rogers.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012, in the chapel of Harry T. Reid Funeral Home, Jasper, Fla. Interment will follow at New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery near Jennings.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service on Wednesday from noon-2 p.m..
