Myrtice Adams Colson,

-- — Myrtice Adams Colson, “Nana,” 88, passed away Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, at South Georgia Medical Center. She was born in Remerton, on Oct. 14, 1924, and was the daughter of the late Gordon Ira Adams and Lucille Malloy Adams. Mrs. Colson graduated from Valdosta High School. She then graduated from Andrew College in Cuthbert. Upon graduation, she moved back to Remerton, where she taught school for a number of years. After teaching school, she worked as a librarian at Moody AFB. Myrtice was married for 66 years to the late, G.W. (Dub) Colson. Together, they owned Bemiss Road Grocery and were founders of the Academy Acres subdivision in Valdosta. Myrtice was a member of ABWA (American Business Women’s Association), and served in various leadership positions in the UMW (United Methodist Women). Mrs. Colson was also named Valdosta’s Woman of the Year.  

Myrtice was a member of Park Avenue United Methodist Church. Her love of God and family were most precious to her.

Her survivors include her son and daughters-in-law, Greg and Cheryl Colson, Valdosta; daughters-in-law, Valerie Colson, Peachtree City, Ga. and Pat Colson, Valdosta. Her grandchildren Todd Hatcher, Atlanta, Brent and Cara Colson, Peachtree City, Rachel and Steve Blankenship, Cartersville, Allison and David Gracey, Arlington, Va., Brad Colson, Charlotte, N.C., Hunter and Trace Colson, Valdosta; six great-grandchildren, Ellen, Cole, Julia and Tate Colson, Caroline and Davis Hatcher, and expectant baby, Colson Walton Gracey. Her loving sister-in-law, Catherine Colson Corbett and her brother-in-law Calvin Colson, and many beloved nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, G.W. (Dub) Colson; her sons, Gordon Wallace (Wally) Colson, and Larry Walton Colson; and her brother, Carlton Thomas Adams and sister-in-law Catherine Cooper Adams and brother-in-law, Kenneth Carmen Colson.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013 at Park Avenue United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Sunset Hill Cemetery. The Rev. V.L. Daughtry, the Rev. Hale Bishop and the Rev. Willie Beasley will officiate. Visitation will be this evening, Jan. 15, 2012 from 6-8 p.m., at Carson McLane Funeral Home. The family is accepting flowers or donation can be made to the Park Avenue United Methodist Church.
