VALDOSTA —
Charles Edward McGowan was born Nov. 24, 1949 in Valdosta to the late Johnnita Thomas and Thomas McGowan. He was raised by his step father, the late Buddy Thomas. He attended Pinevale High School where he graduated in class of 1967. He was also a member of Pinevale Marching Band. He joined the U.S. Army in 1968 where he served two terms of the Vietnam War. He received a Purple Heart and a Metal of Honor. He was a lifetime member of the Amvets Post 607 and The American Legion where he served on the board. He became a Mason in his early life. He became an entrepreneur of McGowan Carpets and Tile.
He leaves to cherish his memories his loving and only child, Kelly (Quinton) Davis; grandchildren, Michelle (Aciano) Gardner-McKeithen, Clarence Burnett, Tatyana Frye, and Kel’lisha Davis; great-grandchildren, Aeveon, MaKayla Gardner, Travis Brolon Jr., Kam Burnett, and Lemont Moore Jr.; one sister, Rose Lee Baker; god children, Kasreana Griffin, Marianda and Mark McCoggle, and Jerimiah Reynolds; special friends, Antonio Harrington Sr., Billy Johnson, Tony Finnissee, John T. and Hazel White; special cousin, Bernice; and a host of sorrowing nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 12 Noon Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013 at the Church of Pine Hill. Pastor Alex Bunion is the Pastor and Pastor George Vereen will officiate. Burial will follow in Charles Knight Cemetery. — Final rites are entrusted to Harrington Funeral Home.
