VALDOSTA —
Ethel “Oneda” Howell, 74, of Arlington, Texas, formerly of Lakeland, Ga., passed away Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013, in an assisted living facility, Isle at Watercrest in Mansfield, Texas. She was born on June 22, 1938, in Lakeland, Ga., to the late Noah and Lavie Jewel (Fountain) Chaney. She was a member of the Church of God where she was a Sunday School teacher and taught children missionettes.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Winston B. Howell; her brothers, Joe Buford Chaney, Luther Glen Chaney, Talmadge Chaney, Hubert Chaney, Eugene “Bud” Chaney, Clifford Chaney; and her sisters, Mabel Atwell and Dorothy Bennett.
Survivors include her daughter, Pam Howell of Burleson, Texas; son, Stephen W. Howell of Phoenix, Ariz.; granddaughter, Samantha Lassiter of Burleson, Texas; grandson, Brandon Lassiter of Burleson, Texas; sister-in-law, Ellen Chaney of Naylor; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013, at the Good Hope Baptist Church in Lowndes County, Ga., with burial to follow in the Good Hope Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. today in the Lakeland Chapel of Music Funeral Services.
