VALDOSTA —
Mrs. Mae P. Herring, 100, of Barney, Ga., passed away Jan. 21, 2013, at the Cook Senior Living Center in Adel, Ga. She was born Dec. 22, 1912, in Helena, Ga., to the late Frank Dewitt Phalen and Allie Cleo Wiggins Phalen. Mrs. Herring lived most of her life in Barney and the past 13 years in Adel. She was a member of Barney United Methodist Church and was a homemaker. Her door was always open and her love steadfast. She loved God, her family and her church. Special “thanks” to Mary’s Haven, her home away from home for the past 13 years, and to the Cook Senior Living Center.
Mrs. Herring is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Olive and Emerson Spivey of Greensboro, N.C.; son-in-law, John Dean of Cochran, Ga.; sister-in-law, Betty Jean Herring of Barney; her sister, Hilda Harmon of Florida; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Malcolm Clayton Herring; her son, James Malcolm Herring; and her daughter, Bobbie Dean.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013, at the Barney United Methodist Church with the Rev. Charles McDowell officiating. Interment will follow in Campground Church Cemetery. Visitation will be on the day of the service from 1 p.m. until the time of service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The United Methodist Children’s Home or to the charity of your choice.
