Clemmie Lee Lang Smith

VALDOSTA — Mrs. Clemmie Lee Lang Smith, 91, the daughter of the late Monroe and Idella Lang, was born July 20, 1921 in Lowndes County, Ga. She departed this life on Monday, Jan. 28, 2013. She was married to the late Cortez Smith, Sr. on April 15, 1946. To this union four children were born. On July, 10, 1049, she confessed Christ and joined St. James Missionary Baptist Church under leadership of Rev. W.H. Byrd. She was a very devoted member, served as Assistant President of Deaconess, Assistant President of the Mission, Sunday School Teacher, a member of the St. James Choir and Secretary of the Ever-Ready Club serving faithfully until her health failed.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Cortez Smith; her only son, Cortez Smith Jr.; one sister, Lavern Williams and four brothers, Rufus Lang Sr., Joe L. Hunter, James Lang Sr. and Johnny F. Mackey.

She leaves to celebrate her life, three daughters, Maxine Jackson (Willie) of Hahira, Elaine S. Fedrick (Joe Pete) and Wanda G. Knight of Valdosta; one daughter-in-law, Yolanda Smith of Morven; two sisters, Helen Graham, who was her devoted caretaker of Valdosta, and Mary Pearl Lang of Winter Haven, Fla.; one brother, R.L. Mackey of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; 11 grandchildren, Louis, Larry, Stella, Carla, Eric, Donya, Sheila, Utricia, Sharonda, Kayree, and Johnny; 36 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013 at St. James Baptist Church. The Rev. Thomas J. Haynes is Pastor and Pastor Michael R. Smith will officiate. Interment will follow in Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. this evening at Harrington Funeral Home Chapel. — Final rites  are entrusted to Harrington Funeral Home.
