VALDOSTA — John Alton Yeomans, 71, of Valdosta, passed away Tuesday, July 27, 2010, in Langdale Hospice House after a brief illness. He was born on June 22, 1939, in Broxton, to the late Lela Mae and J.D. Yeomans. Mr. Yeomans owned and operated the Yeomans Drywall Company for more than 40 years. Despite being bashful as a young man, he enjoyed talking to friends and seldom met a stranger. He took pleasure in teaching his children and grandchildren new things, from reading the newspaper articles to the girls when they were young to teaching them and many others how to fish, hunt and water ski. He attended Bethany Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Alex Jay Hayes.

He is survived by his wife, Nell Yeomans of Valdosta; daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa Giles, Hahira, Brenda and Jerry Mixon, Willacoochee, Ga., Jeannie and Rick Hayes, Hahira; grandchildren, Patrick and Amanda Giles, Erica Giles, Kimberly and Dustin Sirmans, Wendy Mixon, Hayley Hayes; great-grandchildren, Dylan, Dusty, Jasleigh, Reid, Kyla, Lacey; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mildred Yeomans, Valdosta, Patricia and James “Buddy” Astles, Hahira, Mary Elizabeth and Ermon “Tom” Bentley, Saint Augustine, Fla.; a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, July 29, 2010, in the chapel of Music Funeral Services with burial to follow in Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted or a donation can  be made to the Langdale Hospice House, 2251 Pineview Drive, Valdosta, GA  31602.
