VALDOSTA — Don't ban cell phones in schools, use them. Text them homework assignments, pop quiz questions, and test reminders. Use it as a tool so that it can't become the distraction that it is.
Good Luck to the Lowndes Mock Trial group as you head to Lawrenceville on Friday to compete for State. Way to go!
Great job to the South Georgia Athletic Club wrestlers who wrestled at the Big Kids State Championship this past weekend in Atlanta. Congratulations to Matthew Moody, State Champ! Brian Bell and Hunter Kelly for placing third! You boys worked very hard this season and it paid off!
The last time I heard, government assistance accounted for less than 5 percent of the GDP, compared to 50 percent for defense, these numbers were years ago, but overall I think we still spend very little on assistance programs to help people in need. It would probably cost more to root out those that don't need assistance rather than to just pay it. No system is perfect. Whether its government or private, there are always those that will try to beat the system.
A reply to the college prof. I have to agree with you, as the parent of a Lowndes grad 2000 college prep with grades good enough to receive Hope Grant. The first class he was required to take, at the college of his choice, was remedial reading. How do you get that far with poor reading skills?
With the "inter-governmental" department operating at a deficit, when is the mayor going to reduce staff to eliminate the deficit? Growth has decreased over the past year and looks like it will not resume anytime soon. Do we need the same size inspection and permitting staff as when building was booming?
It seems that lately, people rant more than they rave. Come on people, focus on the good things in life and stop complaining so much. Life would be a lot less stressful if you take my advice. Remember: don’t worry, be happy.
Kudos to the Valdosta Middle School coaches and school for a great banquet. They did a great job and made the students and parents feel great.
I would love to see a children's hospital built in Lowndes County. This would create more jobs and less travel for families during a stressful time. This would benefit Lowndes and surrounding counties!
To the ranger who wants to furlough welfare recipients, I agree 100 percent and I think you should run for president!
