What We Think: Thumbs up

THUMBS UP: To the Lowndes High School Vikings for winning their annual homecoming game. On Friday, Sept. 4, the Vikings defeated the Peachtree Ridge High School Lions 51-17. Also, thumbs up to Ariel Lester, daughter of John and Helen Lester of Naylor, and Jordan Black, son of Chance Black and Robin Miller of Lake Park, for being crowned 2009 homecoming queen and king.

THUMBS UP: To Chancy Drugs and 1st America Drugs for participating in a free vitamin program for kids. At Chancy Drugs, kids between the ages of 5 and 12 can get free multi-vitamins for a year. At 1st America Drugs, the multi-vitamins are given to kids between the ages of 4 and 15. One a day is enough for the child to develop a healthy immune system.

THUMBS UP: To Darshawn Sharp, a wrestler for Team Georgia and Valdosta High School. Over the summer Sharp won a national championship title in freestyle wrestling at the ASICS/Vaughan Junior and Cadet National Championships presented by the U.S. Marines in Fargo, N.D.

THUMBS UP: To Brooks County for being named the recipient of $500,000 in grant funds from the state of Georgia’s Community Development Block Grant Program for the construction of a new Boys and Girls Club. Also thumbs up to Lowndes County for its $300,000 in Community Home Investment Program funding, which will be used to offer down payment assistance to families and for home rehabilitation.
