Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for yourself.
I want to thank the staff at Express Care walk-in clinic. Each employee I came in contact with was so helpful and friendly. I called with questions later and then they still took the time to show they cared.
Congratulations to the Lowndes FFA Chapter and their successful trip to Indianapolis for the National Convention.
So the city of Valdosta is selling water to Remerton. Maybe they can use some of those profits to provide water and sewer to actual citizens of Valdosta. The city needs to provide services to the deserving citizens who have paid for their own lake cleanup and maintenance, who continue to pay one of the highest tax bases in Valdosta, and the incurred water runoff tax. We need to see some progress on the promises we were given when we were annexed into the city.
Amazing how not one teacher, administrator, and only four VHS students attended any of the four scheduled performances of the outstanding drama production at Valdosta High School. Also amazing how the same group endured the rain and cold for the football game. Mr. Ipina you and your students deserve better.
A great big thank you to all the volunteers that made last weekend’s Cub O Ree a success! It was great. The totem was awesome. A big thank you also to Allison, Linda and Jack. Every time I saw you three, you were working very hard.
Remerton is wasting their money hiring this consulting firm from Atlanta to conduct a noise study. It is a college town. it is going to be noisy.
Why not teach Hispanics English? Why should we be taught Spanish as long as we live in the USA?
I think Lowndes County should put a flyer in every mailbox in the county to explain what we need to do with our trash since the centers are closing. No one seems to know what is going on in the county about this and don’t ask the attendant because they don’t know either. Please remind us so the public will know what is going on.
Don’t worry Scarlett, there is still one southern gentleman in today’s world. You will find him at Lanier County High School. He stopped and gave my granddaughter and me a ride to Lanier Elementary one morning when I had a flat tire on the roadside. He then came back and changed the tire for me. Thank you Kevin Moore.
Special thanks to Mr. Pat, Ms. Margo, and Mr. Ivey for their support to the Lions Club. Thank you!
Is there any way we can talk Mr. Sam Allen out of retirement? We miss him so much.
A big thank you to The Valdosta Daily Times for publishing the daily articles on the United States Presidents. They are concise, factual, interesting and timely. I hope the parents of school age children are saving them.

Thoughts on graduation
Graduation ceremonies reflect how life marches on. For the students receiving their diplomas and degrees, graduation is a culmination of the majority of their lives’ work.

Thumbs up, thumbs down
THUMBS UP: To Dr. John Gaston, retiring dean of Valdosta State University’s College of the Arts. For the past 10-plus years, Gaston has worked to build a more interconnected program with various artistic and communications departments working together. Given that you are likely to see one College of the Arts department collaborating with another during events is proof of Gaston’s success.

On the go this weekend
Take a breath.

Sharing the roads with motorcycles
With the recent pleasant temperatures and sunny skies, the number of motorcycles on area roads has increased.
-
Thank your local law enforcement today
Today, May 15, was designated Peace Officers Memorial Day back in 1962 when President John F. Kennedy was in office.

Visit musical roots this weekend
Beginning Saturday, May 18, Nashville, Ga., will be hosting a special Smithsonian exhibit, “New Harmonies: Celebrating American Roots Music.” The exhibit will continue through the end of June and Nashville has done a tremendous job in promoting and planning for the exhibit.

Happy Mother’s Day!
A few years ago, a television commercial asked, Who first believed in you? Many folks may have instinctively answered by simply saying, Mom.

Thumbs up
THUMBS UP: To mail workers, volunteers and food bank staff for gathering food for the annual Stamp Out Hunger postal food drive today. A plastic bag designated for canned goods and other non-perishable food items should have arrived in your mailbox earlier this week. If you haven’t already, take a few moments to fill the bag with food and hang from your mailbox. If you didn’t receive the special Stamp Out Hunger bag, any plastic bag filled with food will do. This food drive helps feed thousands of South Georgians annually. Valdosta-Lowndes County often donates more food than nearly all other cities and counties in Georgia.

Celebrating nurses
She is considered the founder of modern nursing so it seems only natural that National Nurses Week would include Florence Nightingale’s birthday.

Helping the hungry: Mail it in!
Valdosta-Lowndes County continues revealing its generous spirit.
