What We Think
Rant & Rave for Friday, April 3, 2009
It is ridiculous that 15 years ago the hourly wage for servers was $2.13 per hour and it still is today. People really need to wake up. When people go out to eat and they are waited on, they need to tip at least the recommended 15 percent. Servers don't keep all their tip. They have to tip out the bartender, the food runner and the hostess. In the end, because of poor tippers (not a result of poor service), they end up making $4 off of a $60 bill.
I wished someone would help the law-enforcement in Lanier County to stand against the wrong doing in Lakeland so that our children would have a fighting chance in the real world. So much has been distorted that they don't have a clue.
A huge rave to Perimeter Road Baptist Church. My husband and I went to their Easter program and it was fabulous. Thank you so much for such a wonderful blessing.
So I hear about what our community leaders are doing with the roads, but what are they doing about Valdosta's economy? We are sinking fast. There are no jobs, and with Shaw closing something needs to be done before we have a homeless population explosion.
To all employers: If you want qualified people, then offer pay that is conducive to their qualifications. You can't expect to hire experienced, educated workers for minimum wage; you won't find any.
Dog owners in Fawn Heights subdivision: I agree. Put the dogs in your yard. I am pregnant and get greeted by a brown lab every day when we get home. She is playful, but she play bites and play growls. If she ever bites me or jumps on me, don't be surprised if you get a doctor's bill and lawsuit.
I’m so tired of these clerks trying to take a few extra bucks when you pay and hope you don't notice. I don't forget, will let others know you are not honest and will not be back. It’s the same as stealing.
I agree that people should keep their pets at their own home. I took my vehicle to the shop to determine why my air conditioning is no longer working. The outcome, a cat had gotten into it and did over $1,000 worth of damage. I don't have a cat, but several neighbors do and let them roam the neighborhood. I’m glad I noticed the air not working before my engine or transmission went out, or I started my car with the cat inside. Please keep your pets at home.
I would really like to thank the two gentlemen from Toyota on James Road Friday afternoon. My husband, 4-year-old son, and I slid into the ditch from the storm and all the construction going on. These men were very nice to stop and help us. God bless you both. And thanks again for having a heart.
Congratulations to the Azalea City Extreme All-Star Cheerleading teams. The youth, junior, and both senior teams picked up first place at Diamond Cheer Competition in Tallahassee. Also, awarded the best sportsmanship award. Way to go. Thanks to The Cheer Spot and coaches.

The accidental release of three inmates from the Lowndes County Jail was an unfortunate incident.

What we think: Wanted: Your vote
Early voting for the runoff election to see who will make it to the November general election begins today at the Elections Office in Lowndes County, 2808 N. Oak St.
If you voted in the primary election, you can only vote in the runoff election for the same party you voted previously. -
What We Think: Wanting answers for Wanat
Family of American soldiers killed in Afghanistan have wanted answers.

More than two thirds of the counties in Georgia were on extreme heat alerts Monday as temperatures rose to the high 90s with a heat index well over 100 degrees.

Where’s the money?
As part of a large transportation public hearing this week, the city unveiled its proposed plans for the new Gateways Project that will affect West Hill Avenue from Interstate 75 to downtown, and Madison Highway from the airport to South Patterson Street.

Thumbs up, thumbs down
THUMBS DOWN: To the candidates who have not removed their campaign signs from area roadways and yards. The only candidates who need signs at this point are those heading into the runoff and — maybe — those who are already guaranteed a place on the November ballot.

What we think: One vote
Think your vote doesn’t matter? Did you have a candidate you liked but didn’t vote because you thought, well, what’s one vote?

What we think: Sad end for Fresh Start
Fresh Start seems to have been a good idea that came to a rotten end this week. After all, there was the disappointed anger of those turned away a few weeks ago because the program lacked the manpower to handle hundreds of applications at one time.

Election vote
Every election is important, but some seem more important than others. This is one of those elections. With the state’s budget on the ropes, education funding bled nearly dry, and a multitude of other issues crowding for attention, management and money, this may well be one of the most important elections in Georgia’s history.
