Rant & Rave for Friday, June 12, 2009

To the Georgia Department of Labor: We the unemployed Shaw Industries people still have not received compensation from the state. It has been two weeks. We are getting different answers from different people for the same questions asked. Someone that is in charge of this department needs to hold a meeting and get all the facts straight and help us.

In this time of recession where families are having to cut their own budgets and pinch every penny, why are we beginning a transit system that will cost $1.2 million a year to operate and will only benefit a few people? It makes no sense to me.

There should be limits on what type of food can be bought with food stamps. Seeing folks load up with candy or high-price steak or fish is unbelievable. The program is there to help you not reward you.

Bravo to the Partnership for Health clinic and its staff. Thank you to all the people who volunteer their services so those that would not otherwise receive health care but now are able to. It’s a shame that there are no GYN doctors who are willing to offer their services.

Why can’t they just use 5 Points for the transit hub?

I wish the mayor of Ray City the best of luck in running for governor. I will be nice to see someone from our area running instead of the same old biased candidates. Good luck mayor.

Just when you think you’ve heard it all. Your tax dollars will now pay the island nation of Palau $200 million to take in 17 Guantanamo prisoners. This works out to almost $12 million per prisoner. It’s time for another tea party, folks.

I would like to let the centennial committee in Ray City know that I have been to every event they have had so far, and it has well passed my expectations. I would like to congratulate them for all their hard work. The committee has done a great job and I can’t wait for the rest of the year’s events.

I've seen many criticisms of bicycle riders and joggers in the Rant & Rave, always from drivers who resent having to go around them on the streets. I wonder if jealousy is involved. How many of those drivers are fit enough to do what the bikers or joggers do?

The UAW now has the biggest share of ownership in two auto companies. They may have taken a big cut in pay and benefits, but that will change big time if any profit is made within the next few years. Cars are cheap now compared to what they will cost in the future.

The recent comments by David Letterman about Gov. Palin’s 14-year-old daughter are the most hateful and perverted I have ever heard from a major TV network. I will never again watch anything on CBS until he is fired.

Congratulations to the Valdosta Batmen baseball team. Those boys deserve every win they have gotten. A great group of boys and coaches and fans.
