The Valdosta Daily Times
A strange sight will greet many South Georgians this morning: Dawn.
For the past few weeks, Valdosta and Lowndes County schools and other area schools have been out of session for the holidays. Throughout this week, schools have been returning. Valdosta State University returned earlier this week; other schools followed Tuesday; today, both city and county schools are back in classes.
This means more people up early and more traffic on the road. This means children are again standing along roadsides waiting for the buses which have been absent since the days prior to Christmas. This means more cars on the road as school personnel drive to work, as parents leave earlier to drop off school children on the way to work.
Meanwhile, area roadwork is once again in full swing.
In addition to preparing for increased traffic and being cautious of students waiting for buses or walking to classes, morning motorists should remember the detour conditions caused by road construction along Hill Avenue, for example.
So, be careful this morning and in the mornings to come. Drive safely. Watch out for other motorists and youngsters. Take your time and be patient.
It’s a new year and a new morning. Let’s make the best of both.
