VALDOSTA —
On Friday, representatives from the school systems converged on Valdosta City Hall to move the TitleTown trophy to its new and permanent home at the James H. Rainwater Conference Center.
The trophy has been temporarily housed by the city until the center received a display case for the trophy, built and donated by S&S Woodworking on Perimeter Road in Valdosta.
Tim Mabe, conference center director, says he is thrilled to have the trophy in a place where visitors, tourists, and locals can view it.
It’s been more than a year since the community received the official designation of TitleTown, although Valdosta-Lowndes County earned the title through decades of athletic excellence and perseverance. We competed against the biggest cities in the country and came away victorious, just as our athletes have faced many foes from much larger communities and came away as champions.
Although no major state or national titles have been won since Valdosta received the ESPN TitleTown designation, our athletic teams on a high school and collegiate level continue to excel and make us proud.
The designation was an honor that our area’s student athletes continue to earn every time they step onto a field of play.
Congratulations again to all of the area athletes and school systems who have taken such ownership and pride of the TitleTown designation and who want to ensure that it is now shown off in a permanent display befitting its importance to us all.
