The key to good health care in the United States starts at home. You have to control your food intake and get off your fat buns and do some walking or exercise. And for God’s sake set an example for the children. They are beginning to look like the parent and 80-year-old people when they are 7 or 8 years old. For God’s sake, set an example and it starts at home.
After reading Rant & Rave, I became a disgruntled married man. Where are the women (not girls but grown women) riding around in their cars half-dressed, blouses unbuttoned, no pants on, or in their bath robes. A regular live procession, if I could find it, would be better than Mediacom, and cheaper.
In the weekly article in the Lanier County News, Helen Strickland thanked many people for their support for the Fall Frolic Festival in Lakeland. But without Helen, there will be no Frolic. Hats off to you Miss Helen and thank you again from the bottom of our hearts.
In my opinion, Olive Garden is the restaurant equivalent of NASCAR and Sarah Palin.
Good for Mayor Fretti. He is standing up to the NRA. He’s not standing up to hunters. He is standing up to guns these thugs have. Now if he can get Mediacom straight, we all will be happy.
I want to take my hat off to Dr. Shiver. I wish more of our professionals would not think about dollars and be more thoughtful of the needs of others. There are many out there that can't afford things and could use a helping hand. We all should remember, help should start at home.
I can't believe what I just saw and heard on TV. After just reading about the deep financial troubles with the U.S. Postal Service, they are one of the sponsors of the U.S. Open. Why do they have to advertise?
To the person who says a dog doesn’t know the difference between a park and a back yard must never have owned a dog. When I get in my car to go somewhere, my dog is very excited. When I take him out of the back yard which is fenced in, and take him to the front yard, he is very happy. They are smarter than you think.
My daughter comes home from Berrien High School talking about how cold it is every day in her classes. She says the teachers cannot control the temperature so they open windows to let warm air in. Isn't this a waste of money and electricity?

Parents and schools
There is a lot of talk lately about school systems and grading policies, and how all of a child's problems come back to a lack of parenting. But is it really that simple? Can it be a case where the school systems are so focused on the problem few that the majority of students are ignored?

Thumbs up, thumbs down
THUMBS UP: To Brooks County High School engineering and technology teacher Don Morgan and his students. They recently received national attention for their work with biodiesel fuel. They collect used cooking oil from area fast-food restaurants then process this oil into biodiesel. Morgan hopes to next interest the Brooks County school buses into running on the fuel created in his class. This classroom not only prepares students for the future but may prepare all of us for an alternative energy source.
