The show will go on

VALDOSTA — There’s a life lesson in today’s story about Peach State Summer Theatre replacing the lead actress in the musical “Legally Blonde.”

The show must go on.

PSST! auditioned and hired the lead actress several months ago. She arrived and performed her part wonderfully, but she received a better theatrical offer from New York City.

Given its connection to Valdosta State University Theatre & Dance, PSST! understands the desire for young performers to succeed. Cast changes are a reality within the theatrical world.

Peach State did not stand in her way, but the professional theatre company did not stand idly by either.

While the original actress continued in the role for several more performances, PSST! found and prepared an actress to take her place. Tonight, that actress, Krista Severeid, debuts as Elle in PSST!’s “Legally Blonde.”

Not only must the show go on. It will go on.

It is a message that can be applied to “real lives” as much as theatrical characters. The show must go on.

Too often, people find excuses for postponing things. This couldn’t be done because this happened. It’s easy to find excuses to postpone, delay, put off, and procrastinate.

It can start with little things and lead to the postponement of goals and dreams. Too late comes the realization that the show hasn’t been placed on hold; instead, the show goes on without us.

Are we all doing our part to play our roles to the fullest? Are we forging forward or waiting for something to happen?

Peach State moves forward without losing any dates on its schedule. That took a large amount of work back stage and behind the scenes. It was not easy, but the show goes on.

Shakespeare said, All the world’s a stage and we are merely players. But we must participate to play. The show goes on. Life goes on.
