Take me out to the ball park

VALDOSTA — The Valdosta State baseball season begins today. The Blazers host Lindenwood at 2:30 p.m. Nothing beats quality baseball played in warm weather with a great venue like Billy Grant Field.

For some, watching Division II baseball may seem like a drag. In actuality, the amount of baseball talent that fills the diamond at VSU is some of the best in the nation. With South Georgia being known as a football-oriented town, baseball at VSU might make residents think differently. After all, the Blazers have had three players selected in the past four Major League Baseball drafts, and a fourth player, former Lowndes standout Christian Glisson, could be drafted this June.

Just because the national media doesn’t reach into the D-II ranks, that doesn’t mean the competition isn’t fierce. That is far from the case. The players want to win and prove they can play at a high-level even more than players who might play at Division I schools.

While games at some locations may not be family-friendly, the complete opposite is true for games at VSU. Bravo to the athletic department at the university for making the atmosphere at Billy Grant safe for everyone and one that all families can enjoy. With a picnic area down the left-field fence, to bleacher seating behind home plate, there is always a place at Billy Grant to watch the game.

With great music filling the air between the innings, to go along with one of the best public-address announcers in the business, and promotions that will surely thrill and entertain the entire family, attending games at Valdosta State is a must for the entire family.

  • Events that get things done

Finding something that repeatedly attracts the public is difficult enough, but finding an event that accomplishes that feat while also promoting your organization and helping others … well, in many places, that’s a rarity.
Not so for the Valdosta area.
