What we think: Every day a Day of Caring

The Valdosta Daily Times

VALDOSTA — Friday’s Day of Caring serves as the kick-off for the Greater Valdosta United Way’s 2010-11 fundraising campaign.

While the United Way needs money to help several regional agencies that help people, the Day of Caring is about the community better understanding where this money goes.

Day of Caring volunteers will spend Friday morning physically helping organizations helped by the United Way. Volunteers may spend the morning painting, inventorying items, cleaning, building, filing, or assisting area charitable agencies in any number of ways.

Through this work, volunteers get first-hand experience of how these agencies work, what they do, who they help, the challenges they face, what  they need to meet these challenges.

The Day of Caring helps these organizations with immediate concerns, but it also helps by raising awareness of what the United Way must do to help these agencies.

For the United Way, the community’s needs do not end Friday afternoon. Needs must be met on a daily basis.

Every day is a day of caring for the United Way and its many participating agencies.
