Rant & Rave for Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2009

If Preston Barker was Florida State's leading receiver last year, then what is he doing at North Alabama this year? Why did he transfer from a Division I school to a Division II school?

I don’t get it—South Georgia Medical Center boasts how they have improved their emergency room services, however they don’t care patients are being left with large outstanding bills due to the new physician staff they hired is not in network with local business insurances (Blue Cross Blue Shield and First Health Network). I pay premiums on two insurances and still have a balance.

I had to deal with a police department detective involving one of the murders from the summer. I wish you all could understand how much work they do and how much our family and friend’s deaths affect them. God bless you friend and all your co-workers.

It is time for us to ask the city council for more police officers. The city has grown so fast we understood it takes time for our first responders to get help. With the crime explosion, we must say your time is up. Candidates tell the paper how you are going to provide the police the help they need.

Congratulations Phi Mu sorority and Sigma Nu fraternity for winning second place in the homecoming parade. Great work by students working together in our college community. Thanks for the beautiful cake baked by the Pink Ladies given to the person who loaned them the trailer used in the parade. Our community is proud of the grand young students who chose VSU as their university.

Congratulations to the Lowndes ninth grade and JV football teams for having undefeated seasons. Go Vikings.

Will this nightmare of racial bigotry never end and Dr. King's dream of brotherhood be realized? I can answer my own question. Not until people of courage realize, speak up and teach, that we all bleed the same color and we all feel the same pain and we all want the same freedoms and opportunities for us and our families.

Year round school is a great idea. Teacher’s salaries would have to reflect the change. With more time, the student is allowed to absorb more effectively the information they may be struggling with. Change is difficult but other countries don't have a problem with it.
