Instead of getting into another partisan argument on year-round schools, why don't we, for once, try a compromise? As a former teacher, I needed a break to prepare for the next year and to see family that lives all over everywhere, as do some others. Therefore, why couldn't we try a hiatus covering the last week of June and all of July or July and the first week of August?
This home makeover show is so funny to me. Where are all these volunteers and builders before the TV cameras and a show appear? Do these families not need help before cameras showed up? If a family needs help, help them. If they need a house built or repaired, do it. Don’t wait for a TV show and cameras come before you decide to help someone.
I am wondering how long will it be before we can watch all of Valdosta and Lowndes County football games on TV? I have lived in many communities a lot smaller than Valdosta and they televise all their football games.
Does anybody hate this World Series match-up any worse than I do?
A very special thanks to city of Adel water department. We had a water break at our house and they did an excellent job. I appreciate what they did.
Year-round schools do not attend any longer than schools that are open only nine months. Students would still attend 190 days. It would be spread out better and allow more concentration on material. The difference is that students would have adequate time to recharge during the year with extra breaks that they do not have now. Instead of a one-week spring break they would get a two-week break.
In case you haven't heard but year-round school does not mean more time in classroom. It just means more breaks all year. I for one love having the time with my kids in the summer. Gives us a few months to do spur of the moment things.
We have recently had a string of burglaries in our neighborhood. The police told us to call them if we saw any suspicious activity. I walked outside and saw six teens leaving my neighbor’s back yard (who was out of town) and called the police. They simply drove past the kids without stopping or saying a word and immediately left the neighborhood. Wow, I feel overwhelming protection now!
