Rant & Rave for Thursday, Nov. 26, 2009

When did the city change the business license renewal process? We used to have our license renewed by April 1, now it is Dec. 31. Don't you think that you could have let us know.

What is Floyd Rose doing to encourage black kids to stay in school or to set up tutoring programs? Is he part of the solution or just pointing blame at others?

Does the Lake Park Police really find it necessary to block the southbound turn on highway 41 into Lake Park Elementary? At least wait until 7:30 a.m. when all the teachers are at work, instead of 7:15 a.m. Kids aren't even allowed into the building until 7:45 a.m. There wasn't a traffic problem before, but the area is congested now.

"We are not responsible for our condition." Wow. Rev. Rose, that should tell you something. Sounds like part of the problem to me. If I don't have a job, decent housing, or health care, it's not my fault. Oh, that's right. I'm white, so it is my fault.

People please realize that tasers save lives. I would rather be tasered anyday that beat with a night stick. Get educated.

The police are doing a fantastic job combating crime in Valdosta. There is not much they can do unless a criminal act is committed. It is a fine line they have to walk without being accused of racial profiling or being too aggressive.

How about the superintendent and BOE coach the football team next year? With all those brains, how could we lose?

Thanks for the terrific story about a friendly woman who is an absolute pleasure to do business with. I knew there was a reason we liked Tammy Buhler.

Why should students pay fees for activities they never participate in at VSU? My daughter only uses the clinic. Fees should be on an as-you-use-it basis. Charge a dollar for admission to campus events.

I don't see how Valdosta gets away with their substitute teacher policy or their segregation. Three schools have all the impoverished students.

It seems there has been quite a bit of discussion concerning the term African American. You should always be proud of your heritage but remember first and foremost you are American. Some of Asian descent call themselves Amerasian. Maybe everyone should follow that lead.
