What Sheriff Prine says about stepping up patrol in the rush of crime is fine and well; however, when and where the criminals will strike is another question. It only takes a split second for a robber to be in and out of the scene of the crime. What we need is community cooperation. If a citizen sees or knows something, report it. A criminal cannot hurt you if they are behind bars.
People that complain to or about their neighbors by sending anonymous letters are cowards. If you weren’t such “chickens” then maybe you could go to them in person. Your neighbor may be noisy, but at least he’s not a coward.
When the Valdosta Police Department gave tips to prevent being robbed in the paper Sunday, why didn’t they say to get a gun, a permit, learn how to use it, and carry it at all times. I carry mine because a policeman is too heavy.
Thank you to the city and mayor for having a vision for the future. Now is the time to acquire 5 Points.

Sheriff Prine and Chief Simons, we appreciate the increased patrol units to deter robberies. But even then the odds of catching a criminal in the act by patrolman driving by is still in the favor of the criminal. Instead, please use these extra patrolmen for undercover roadside checks. They will uncover multiple violations, and may even find stolen property. When the lawless go through undercover roadside checks regularly and randomly, eventually they will move to another town.
If the American flag is present during the playing of the National Anthem then you should be facing the flag with your hand over your heart.
It is not a requirement to say thank you when someone does something nice for you either, but it’s called respect. Why would any American not have respect for their anthem or flag? Maybe you should visit Iraq. I imagine you will come home with a lot of respect for your country.

THUMBS UP: To Brooks County High School engineering and technology teacher Don Morgan and his students. They recently received national attention for their work with biodiesel fuel. They collect used cooking oil from area fast-food restaurants then process this oil into biodiesel. Morgan hopes to next interest the Brooks County school buses into running on the fuel created in his class. This classroom not only prepares students for the future but may prepare all of us for an alternative energy source.

Fathers teaching daughters
It began as a small gathering for fathers and daughters. It has become one of Valdosta’s most popular social events of the year.
Several years ago, Jeff Stewart co-founded the event with his wife, Becky, as a way for him to give a special night to his two daughters. Other fathers of First Presbyterian Church liked the idea and the Father-Daughter Valentine Dance was born. -
