A growing city, Nashville is known all around the state as the City of Dogwoods. The flowering tree grows in abundance around the area.
Of course, so do the “sweetest muscadine grapes in America,” according to Horse Creek Winery and Perry Vineyards.
On Sept. 11, Nashville Better Hometown and the Berrien County Chamber of Commerce will host a Harvest Festival in Downtown Nashville. There will be vendors, entertainment, a little grape stomping, arts and crafts, face painting and so much more.
The fun will last all day long and culminate with an open-air concert at Horse Creek Winery at 8:30 p.m. featuring the Swingin’ Medallions. Gates will open at 7 p.m.
Referred to as “The Party Band of the South,” the Swingin' Medallions has been based out of the Greenwood, S.C., area since the early 1960s.
The group’s musical roots came from listening to the early rhythm and blues acts. The music most often associated with the band is beach music, frat rock, R&B, or shaggin’ music, according to the website www.medallions.com..
The group’s single “Double Shot of My Baby's Love” became a million dollar seller in 1966 and has been a party classic for college students for decades.
With cooler temperatures moving into the area — at least during early morning and overnight hours — the Berrien County Harvest Festival may just be a perfect way to bid farewell to summer and hello to fall. The season does officially begin on Aug. 23.
Who knows, in years to come, maybe the area will become known as wine country.
