Rant & Rave for Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2012

VALDOSTA — When adults at other tables throw tantrums of their own ... you are only serving to show that you are no more mature than the child.

The Times should be ashamed of printing that story about the airman who killed himself. Have you no boundaries? Is causing the family and friends more pain worth it to you? You don’t see CNN reporting on the thousands of military suicides. You only see that kind of trash on E! News. A publication by a military base should know better and should reflect a certain amount of human decency. You just lost a faithful reader’s respect and money.

Since moving here, I’ve witnessed a culture that is hostile to outsiders, labels anyone they don’t like “Yankees” and hires people they know rather than the best qualified. So please don’t insult my intelligence with oxymorons like “Southern Hospitality.”

UGA must lead the nation in running stats; their players are always running their mouths.

On Sept. 11, the ambassador to Libya and three other Americans were murdered in Benghazi in a premeditated attack by terrorists. The actions by the Obama administration before and during this assault demonstrate an unbelievable level of incompetence and dereliction of duty. In the days following, Obama and his minions lied to the American people over and over again. If the truth of this attack were honestly reported by the media, Obama would be drummed out of office in a heartbeat.

I’m a huge Wildcat fan, but I hope the VHS football coach has learned a valuable lesson from Friday night. Never underestimate your opponent and never play conservatively no matter how big your lead. Play as hard as you can the entire game. When it’s over, then relax.

A huge rave to Dr. Martin and all the others at the veterinary clinic. The care of our two puppies and how they’ve cared for them while they’ve been sick has been amazing and heart warming. Thank you to all of you for your love of animals.

A huge rave to the Board of Elections and their employees. I voted last week and was amazed by the smoothness and professionalism of everyone who worked there, even the workers in the parking lot were kind and efficient. I expected to be there a long time but was in and out in a matter of 10 to 15 minutes. Job well done!

Over 150 applicants applied for the handful of teaching jobs in Lowndes County. Plus, almost every single paraprofessional is a certified teacher who has been waiting patiently, “doing their time.” And, Lake Park Elementary hires a teacher who has quit, not once, but twice before. The "good ole' boy" network at its finest.

Have we progressed to the point where we are arguing about gay marriage? I thought the South was still outraged about blacks being able to marry whites! Hmm...We will catch up to the rest of the world eventually.

I found the cartoon referencing Tim Tebow's Christianity on Thursday's editorial page very offensive. I can agree that many people are out for what God can do for them, not how they can serve God, But I do not see any evidence of that attitude or life style in Tim Tebow's life. Time will tell.

Good riddance to the doctor unable to take Medicaid patients?! Do you work for free? I bet you go to work and expect a paycheck. Why would the doctor be any different? Blame our fearless leaders, not the doctors. And you are WAY out of line questioning whether that person is Christian or not. Sounds like the person who thinks preachers should work for free.

Amazing: Even a judgmental person like yourself can’t even bother to get the facts straight before you criticize something. Jason Collins did an extremely brave thing by coming out in a world filled with people such as yourself. Words of Wisdom: Leave the judging to God.

Raves to Mrs. Kay and Mrs. Sylvia at Cook Primary! They have the best behaved class and are the best teachers in that school!

To all who use Coleman Road as a short cut between Old Highway 41 North and North Valdosta Road, please remember the speed limit is 35, not 65. Tailgating me isn’t going to make me go faster. Remember, it’s our neighborhoods, not your short cut!

I hope Al Sharpton finds time to visit the mother in Brunswick whose baby was shot point blank in the forehead while in his baby stroller. Perhaps the reverend could also counsel the angry young black man who pulled the trigger. Oh wait, the baby was white. Never mind.

I thought that all schools had dress codes that the teachers and substitutes had to follow? When I walk into the school it looks like they are headed to the pool instead of the classroom. Tank tops and skimpy skirts are not allowed. Come on, administration, make them follow the rules. Thank you, to the teachers and staff that do adhere to the dress code.

Property tax should be based on value. School taxes should be separate and assessed to each household equally, no exemptions. The rich, middle and poor should pay equally for children's public education.
