Rant & Raves for Thursday, December 27, 2012

-- — The reasons some businesses say Happy Holidays is because some of their customers are likely Jewish. They also have a holiday in December.

Yes, by all means have armed guards/police in every school. While we are at it, let's have them in every church, mall, park, amusement park, playground, swimming pool, movie theater, everywhere. Where does it end?

I've been enjoying the Snoopy house since I was a child and now, our own children look forward to it. It brings back amazing memories. Thank you for all the amazing lights, Valdosta. God bless.

To the liquor store owner who thinks his time is so important that he has to rush people so he can get a hair cut. I have been in your store before. Maybe if you did not sleep in your office the whole time you could get some work done. My business and I will not be doing anymore shopping with you guys.

So you want to complain about a letter with no letterhead? Would you rather have the county spend thousands of tax dollars on "official" letterhead so that you would be impressed?

Finally! Thanks to all the wonderful praises printed in the Rant and Rave section I read in the Dec. 25th edition. So good to finally read some positive posts! Merry Christmas to all!

Thank you to the family who delivered hot, fresh muffins to South Georgia Medical Center Emergency Room on Christmas morning. They were delicious!

I would like to thank the VDT for having such a great Rant and Rave on Tuesday. Except for the "chancel choir" member complaining about the congregation not smiling, all the other submissions printed were uplifting, with people giving thanks and were heart warming.

I kept reading about a Christmas light show and Madison that was posted in Rant and Rave. What a show!

Saw the rave about "The Scoop" and should have raved about it myself sooner than now. I love that place and I'm so glad that there is a good local place that I can contribute to. All of the employees are so friendly there and I especially love their grilled burgers on Fridays.

Thank you, Alpha Gamma Gamma chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. for the Thanksgiving and Christmas baskets! The families are very, very grateful. Your community services are wonderful.

How long is it going to take AT&T telephone and/or Mediacom cable to do something about the vines and bushes  growing over the cable lines at Mt. Zion Church  Road  and Academy Acres. The lines are  pulled down where a 6 foot person can touch them. We won’t have any cable service or phone service if something is not done about this pretty soon.

Alright Sister's Pizza, how am I supposed to cheat on my diet if you stay closed! The other pizza places are too far from downtown for my lunch hour and are a bit too greasy.

I am thankful I chose to stick with Deep South Sanitation. Our trash is always picked up right on time and he never leaves anything behind. After all my neighbors' trash is "picked up," often items are strewn by the road and the cans are either left in the road or fallen in or beside the road. Get rid of the big company and move to Deep South, if you want true customer service!

Over 150 applicants applied for the handful of teaching jobs in Lowndes County. Plus, almost every single paraprofessional is a certified teacher who has been waiting patiently, “doing their time.” And, Lake Park Elementary hires a teacher who has quit, not once, but twice before. The "good ole' boy" network at its finest.

Have we progressed to the point where we are arguing about gay marriage? I thought the South was still outraged about blacks being able to marry whites! Hmm...We will catch up to the rest of the world eventually.

I found the cartoon referencing Tim Tebow's Christianity on Thursday's editorial page very offensive. I can agree that many people are out for what God can do for them, not how they can serve God, But I do not see any evidence of that attitude or life style in Tim Tebow's life. Time will tell.

Good riddance to the doctor unable to take Medicaid patients?! Do you work for free? I bet you go to work and expect a paycheck. Why would the doctor be any different? Blame our fearless leaders, not the doctors. And you are WAY out of line questioning whether that person is Christian or not. Sounds like the person who thinks preachers should work for free.

Amazing: Even a judgmental person like yourself can’t even bother to get the facts straight before you criticize something. Jason Collins did an extremely brave thing by coming out in a world filled with people such as yourself. Words of Wisdom: Leave the judging to God.

Raves to Mrs. Kay and Mrs. Sylvia at Cook Primary! They have the best behaved class and are the best teachers in that school!

To all who use Coleman Road as a short cut between Old Highway 41 North and North Valdosta Road, please remember the speed limit is 35, not 65. Tailgating me isn’t going to make me go faster. Remember, it’s our neighborhoods, not your short cut!
