Rant & Rave for Monday, Feb. 11, 2013

-- — I think any business that puts a customer or patient on intercom should be fined first, then closed for invasion of privacy.

The Crystal River nuclear plant, which has been standing idle since 2009, has been permanently shut down. Not surprisingly, both risks and costs were given as justification.

If employers didn't need you they wouldn't have hired you. Thanks to Obama's lunacy, employers are struggling to pay salaries and Obamacare jacked insurance prices so high that it's hurting businesses not to be able to hire or keep the help they need.

I'm sure that your employees would be happy to buy their own health insurance if you paid them enough. As a small business owner, it goes both ways. Everyone should be entitled to the opportunity to have affordable health care.

Has the county council considered, or would it consider, opening one recycling center, say the one at Gil Harbin, three or four days a week? Residents of unincorporated areas of the county, showing their drivers license, could be charged a sufficient usage fee each time to make the facility cost neutral.

The employers are not saying "we only need you this much.” They are saying "we have to make a profit to stay in business. If we cannot make a profit, we will have to close our doors. Then, all our employees will be out of a job."

Does no Saturday delivery of mail mean that USPS employees will work five days in a row with no day off? Really? Does it mean my mail will be delivered about the same time every day and not 11 a.m. one day and 5:30 p.m. the next?  Ah, progress.

I want to rant about the Wednesday Rant & Rave which is now utterly boring and not worth my time to bother with. I just skip right past it knowing there is certainly nothing to entertain my brain. Just go back to slipping the raves in between the rants, please. At least then they will stand a better chance of being read. Thank you.

In this day and age, what responsible parent would let their "little kid" knock on doors to sell a glass of lemonade? Sadly, the days of kids being able to go door to door to sell fund raising items or whatever are long gone.

On top of getting cut with Advanced Disposal because of technical difficulties, all you get with the commissioners’ office is an answering machine. Garbage piles up about as fast has everyone’s frustration on dealing with this matter.

Over 150 applicants applied for the handful of teaching jobs in Lowndes County. Plus, almost every single paraprofessional is a certified teacher who has been waiting patiently, “doing their time.” And, Lake Park Elementary hires a teacher who has quit, not once, but twice before. The "good ole' boy" network at its finest.

Have we progressed to the point where we are arguing about gay marriage? I thought the South was still outraged about blacks being able to marry whites! Hmm...We will catch up to the rest of the world eventually.

I found the cartoon referencing Tim Tebow's Christianity on Thursday's editorial page very offensive. I can agree that many people are out for what God can do for them, not how they can serve God, But I do not see any evidence of that attitude or life style in Tim Tebow's life. Time will tell.

Good riddance to the doctor unable to take Medicaid patients?! Do you work for free? I bet you go to work and expect a paycheck. Why would the doctor be any different? Blame our fearless leaders, not the doctors. And you are WAY out of line questioning whether that person is Christian or not. Sounds like the person who thinks preachers should work for free.

Amazing: Even a judgmental person like yourself can’t even bother to get the facts straight before you criticize something. Jason Collins did an extremely brave thing by coming out in a world filled with people such as yourself. Words of Wisdom: Leave the judging to God.

Raves to Mrs. Kay and Mrs. Sylvia at Cook Primary! They have the best behaved class and are the best teachers in that school!

To all who use Coleman Road as a short cut between Old Highway 41 North and North Valdosta Road, please remember the speed limit is 35, not 65. Tailgating me isn’t going to make me go faster. Remember, it’s our neighborhoods, not your short cut!

I hope Al Sharpton finds time to visit the mother in Brunswick whose baby was shot point blank in the forehead while in his baby stroller. Perhaps the reverend could also counsel the angry young black man who pulled the trigger. Oh wait, the baby was white. Never mind.

I thought that all schools had dress codes that the teachers and substitutes had to follow? When I walk into the school it looks like they are headed to the pool instead of the classroom. Tank tops and skimpy skirts are not allowed. Come on, administration, make them follow the rules. Thank you, to the teachers and staff that do adhere to the dress code.

Property tax should be based on value. School taxes should be separate and assessed to each household equally, no exemptions. The rich, middle and poor should pay equally for children's public education.
