Rant & Rave for Monday, Oct. 29, 2012

-- — I am a parent who has raised three kids. If they ever threw a tantrum while we were out, they were immediately taken home. It’s a parent’s responsibility to control their kids while out not let them run wild screaming and hollering. I don’t think it was rude at all for attracting attention to someone not watching their kids.

To all of you out there complaining about children crying and carrying-on in public places, just remember that you were once a child, too, that most likely acted like that. How soon we forget where we came from and what we used to do way back when. Children will be children and kids will be kids.

I would like to give a huge rave to an employee at Murphy Express on Inner Perimeter Road. I am handicapped and he saw me getting out of my van and came out of the store and assisted me without me having to walk in the store. Thank you, John.

Coach Mitchell was burned severely and confined to a wheelchair all summer. I witnessed him volunteer coaching from his wheelchair unable to walk. My son attends LMS and Coach Mitchell is always encouraging him to do his best in the classroom and on the field. My son has went from being a C student to making honor roll this year! Thanks, Coach, for all that you do!

Valdosta has always paid their employees less, cause they know they can. Valdosta has always charged outrageous amounts for health care. Why do you think people here can’t get ahead and more companies have located here. The money employees make goes straight to bills and health-care costs. They have nothing left over. Employers don’t appreciate their workers any more.

It’s hard to be sympathetic with overweight people when they know they have a problem but do nothing about it. If they are obese and still frequent all-you-can-eat buffets, don’t complain that customers are looking at you funny. Take responsibility for your actions and your condition and do something about it.

Dentists overcharging is not limited to Valdosta. It seems they can charge any amount they wish and there doesn’t seem to be any regulation regarding this. Insurance paid for what they thought was fair for my procedure and the amount my dentist charged was significantly over this amount. I’m still paying for it almost six months later. It may pay to shop around, but who has the time?

How long is it going to take AT&T telephone and/or Mediacom cable to do something about the vines and bushes  growing over the cable lines at Mt. Zion Church  Road  and Academy Acres. The lines are  pulled down where a 6 foot person can touch them. We won’t have any cable service or phone service if something is not done about this pretty soon.

Alright Sister's Pizza, how am I supposed to cheat on my diet if you stay closed! The other pizza places are too far from downtown for my lunch hour and are a bit too greasy.

I am thankful I chose to stick with Deep South Sanitation. Our trash is always picked up right on time and he never leaves anything behind. After all my neighbors' trash is "picked up," often items are strewn by the road and the cans are either left in the road or fallen in or beside the road. Get rid of the big company and move to Deep South, if you want true customer service!

Over 150 applicants applied for the handful of teaching jobs in Lowndes County. Plus, almost every single paraprofessional is a certified teacher who has been waiting patiently, “doing their time.” And, Lake Park Elementary hires a teacher who has quit, not once, but twice before. The "good ole' boy" network at its finest.

Have we progressed to the point where we are arguing about gay marriage? I thought the South was still outraged about blacks being able to marry whites! Hmm...We will catch up to the rest of the world eventually.

I found the cartoon referencing Tim Tebow's Christianity on Thursday's editorial page very offensive. I can agree that many people are out for what God can do for them, not how they can serve God, But I do not see any evidence of that attitude or life style in Tim Tebow's life. Time will tell.

Good riddance to the doctor unable to take Medicaid patients?! Do you work for free? I bet you go to work and expect a paycheck. Why would the doctor be any different? Blame our fearless leaders, not the doctors. And you are WAY out of line questioning whether that person is Christian or not. Sounds like the person who thinks preachers should work for free.

Amazing: Even a judgmental person like yourself can’t even bother to get the facts straight before you criticize something. Jason Collins did an extremely brave thing by coming out in a world filled with people such as yourself. Words of Wisdom: Leave the judging to God.

Raves to Mrs. Kay and Mrs. Sylvia at Cook Primary! They have the best behaved class and are the best teachers in that school!

To all who use Coleman Road as a short cut between Old Highway 41 North and North Valdosta Road, please remember the speed limit is 35, not 65. Tailgating me isn’t going to make me go faster. Remember, it’s our neighborhoods, not your short cut!
