VALDOSTA —
Let's see, you can be African American, Mexican American, Asian American, etc. But what do you call the indigenous people of America? According to the dictionary, you call them Native American.
At one time, sales tax was 3 percent. The people kept voting in increases. Now, we're at 7 percent and the county wants to make it 8 percent. Enough tax is collected by local governments and our federal government. What's being done with that money is the problem. It's like money burns a hole in the government’s pocket.
Food stamps used to be a source of shame for those who were on them. They were (and are) necessary for a very few. But most folks who are on them should be embarrassed. Have some pride in yourself and quit taking handouts.
I am personally glad to show ID in order to express my privilege to vote. I believe everyone should have to present ID. The argument that this keeps certain people from voting is ridiculous. If you want to vote bad enough, you have four years between every presidential election to go to your local voter's registration office and get ID.
I am so glad the caretaker of Woodlawn Cemetery in Adel has returned. During his absence, the cemetery became an eyesore. He takes pride in his work and it shows. He honors those buried there by keeping it looking good. Thanks for a job well done.
To the ranter complaining about the Governor's Honor Program, our government already spends tons of money on "at risk" students. It is about time that our government spends money on students who have chosen to do their best and to get a good education.
Congrats to the 10U Dizzy Dean All Stars players and coaches for making it to the State Championship. You guys did an awesome job and never gave up. Thanks for all the community support. The team appreciates it.
A lawsuit settlement is pending that will allow retailers to charge for credit/debit card use. Look for "cash discounts" to pop up everywhere. Just another good reason to shop online.
By law and court ruling, states have the option to participate in Obamacare's requirements. So, it’s perfectly legal for Georgia to follow Florida and Texas in not joining.
Store managers, please turn off your loud and obnoxious music so we can shop in peace!
Thanks to the gentleman who paid for our lunch on Sunday at Hardee’s. God bless and thank you.

Thank you to Victoria at Winn-Dixie in Lake Park for being honest. I left my cash back in the automatic check out. She found it, and turned it in. Great employee. Keep her Winn-Dixie.

I am a student at Valdosta State University, I pay thousands of dollars in tuition, but I am not allowed to use the Student Recreation Center because I am not taking summer classes. I was told that I have to pay $45 to use the Rec Center during the summer. As if I don't pay enough already... Utterly ridiculous.

Truly embarrassing that our community euthanizes 12 animals daily. Our citizenry hasn’t progressed to understand responsibility. The end result in these horrible economic times is the ongoing suffering of animals. Other locales nearby have solved this problem; mandatory spay/neuter and breeding licenses are needed to stop this scourge. Let’s get serious, please!

I think what the County Commissioners are doing to Deep South Sanitation is outrageous and I think the citizens of Lowndes County should remember this during the next election. They are giving away freedom of choice. This man had this trash collection before Advanced.

The City of Valdosta needs another cable company! Competition is a great thing.

Perhaps I'm in the minority, but I'm quite pleased with Advanced Disposal. I'm paying less than I paid for service with Veolia, the service is reliable and they offer a large recycling bin. I don't understand what's "socialist" about offering county residents affordable, reliable service.

Closing the trash drop off was a big mistake. I live in Stone Creek so now I can’t put anything beside the street, now I have to haul it to the landfill and pay by weight. I had to pay $15, then I have to pay the trash pick up monthly. Something is wrong in this picture. I have a lot of yard waste, so now I have to take it to the landfill every time I clean yards.

I live in Brooks County. A while back, a limb fell at the edge of my yard. I called the road department asking to remove it. I was told they could not help because it was on private property. Later driving down Johnson Short Road, I saw the road department removing limbs from a yard. I have found out the limbs were on private property.

Do people in Valdosta not understand that when you lag behind at a green light there are people behind you that will not make the green light due to your inconsideration?

Mosquitoes in the city are growing fast. But sanitation and cable bills in so-called "Metro Valdosta" are growing even faster!
