Rant & Raves for Wednesday, December 19, 2012

-- — I’m tired of every time we have a shooting it comes down to gun control as the answer. There are shootings on the streets of every major city in this country. We don’t do away with the thugs and gangsters. It’s not the guns. It’s the sick individuals that use them.

With the horrific tragedy in Connecticut, we need to seriously think about having a full-time DARE officer in all the elementary schools.

Enough is enough! I will personally work to see that any member of the legislature and Congress who doesn’t take action on gun control defeated. One simple pistol per person and a couple of hunting rifles is plenty.

Each year, 15,000 Americans, hundreds of them little children, are killed by drunk drivers. Outlaw alcohol? Outlaw cars? Pass a law that you cannot drink and drive?

I was rear-ended on my bike at the end of the toy run and the other biker did not stop after crushing my rear fender. I ride a 2011 Fatboy, yellow, and the guy that hit me rode a blue-and-silver Harley and had a white beard. Anyone with information please post and I will repost with contact information. Merry Christmas!

To all the parents, always tell your children and loved ones you love them because it may be the last time you had that choice. Thank you and  have a blessed day.

To the person complaining about the school encouraging kids to see “Lincoln,” if we can’t teach them history then they will never learn how we got to where we are. I personally took my 9- and 13-year-old children to see it!

Driving on Bemiss Road on Friday and Ray Norton Tire Auto Center is already flying the flag at half mast. Somebody who did that needs a pat on the back. Praise the Lord!

Thanks to Valwood and Valdosta State University for keeping up the Winnersville tradition!

Big congratulations to VSU and Valwood for bringing titles back to Titletown. Proud of all involved.

If my server at a local buffet noticed, I did not leave you a tip. If I have to come find you for refills every time my glass is empty, you will never get one. I can understand once, but every time?

While I appreciate the annual motorcycle Toy Ride and what it supports, I do not agree with tying up Ashley Street for as long as it took. I sat at an intersection for close to 20 minutes and could not go anywhere. They should follow the traffic signals.

How long is it going to take AT&T telephone and/or Mediacom cable to do something about the vines and bushes  growing over the cable lines at Mt. Zion Church  Road  and Academy Acres. The lines are  pulled down where a 6 foot person can touch them. We won’t have any cable service or phone service if something is not done about this pretty soon.

Alright Sister's Pizza, how am I supposed to cheat on my diet if you stay closed! The other pizza places are too far from downtown for my lunch hour and are a bit too greasy.

I am thankful I chose to stick with Deep South Sanitation. Our trash is always picked up right on time and he never leaves anything behind. After all my neighbors' trash is "picked up," often items are strewn by the road and the cans are either left in the road or fallen in or beside the road. Get rid of the big company and move to Deep South, if you want true customer service!

Over 150 applicants applied for the handful of teaching jobs in Lowndes County. Plus, almost every single paraprofessional is a certified teacher who has been waiting patiently, “doing their time.” And, Lake Park Elementary hires a teacher who has quit, not once, but twice before. The "good ole' boy" network at its finest.

Have we progressed to the point where we are arguing about gay marriage? I thought the South was still outraged about blacks being able to marry whites! Hmm...We will catch up to the rest of the world eventually.

I found the cartoon referencing Tim Tebow's Christianity on Thursday's editorial page very offensive. I can agree that many people are out for what God can do for them, not how they can serve God, But I do not see any evidence of that attitude or life style in Tim Tebow's life. Time will tell.

Good riddance to the doctor unable to take Medicaid patients?! Do you work for free? I bet you go to work and expect a paycheck. Why would the doctor be any different? Blame our fearless leaders, not the doctors. And you are WAY out of line questioning whether that person is Christian or not. Sounds like the person who thinks preachers should work for free.

Amazing: Even a judgmental person like yourself can’t even bother to get the facts straight before you criticize something. Jason Collins did an extremely brave thing by coming out in a world filled with people such as yourself. Words of Wisdom: Leave the judging to God.

Raves to Mrs. Kay and Mrs. Sylvia at Cook Primary! They have the best behaved class and are the best teachers in that school!

To all who use Coleman Road as a short cut between Old Highway 41 North and North Valdosta Road, please remember the speed limit is 35, not 65. Tailgating me isn’t going to make me go faster. Remember, it’s our neighborhoods, not your short cut!
