Rant & Rave for Monday, March 19, 2012

-- — Why are some Valdostans so concerned about the speed that people are driving? I drive slow and get around town just fine. I haven’t got into any accidents. I save on gas and gas money. If I have an emergency, yeah, I’ll put the pedal to the metal. But why is everyone in such a rush? Is everybody in some kind of emergency? I don’t think so. Slow down, would you? Remember, speed kills!

Jungle Jyms, why on earth do you charge adults for a birthday party? This  makes no sense. If I am taking a 4-year-old child, most of the time they will have a parent with them. Jumpin’ Jacks and Leapin’ Lizards don’t  charge!

A big rave to Trina Pattullo and all of the teachers at Josiah Christian School. The children love you and so do the parents. We’re behind you.

If you look like you’re 90 and still able to drive, it seems that you would know enough by now to use your blinkers and turn on your lights when it’s raining.

A huge rave for the First Annual Kinderlou Kampout! A great time was had by all. Thanks!

Thank you Duck family on Gornto Road for once again dressing Miss Duck in seasonally appropriate attire. I especially enjoyed last month’s patriotic theme.

The rude comment to the new principal was uncalled for. All new chief administrators evaluate and make changes. Some clean house while others just tweak. He’s not expected to come in and just let the school operate just as it is now. What would be the point in hiring him if that were the case? He’s not Mr. Taylor nor is he expected to be (or is he?).

Just because your kid is honor roll or gifted doesn’t mean that they have good behavior! You should see your little darling in action.

I would like to thank Officer Gossek with the Valdosta Police Department HEAT unit. I had a flat tire today on Highway 84 and he helped me get out of traffic on Highway 84 and into a parking lot. Officer Gossek even helped me change the tire. People seem to forget that law enforcement helps people as much as they enforce traffic laws. Thank you again, Officer Gossek.

When is Newt Gingrich going to be sworn in as President of Georgia so that I can begin filling my gas tank with $2.50-a-gallon gas?

Alright Sister's Pizza, how am I supposed to cheat on my diet if you stay closed! The other pizza places are too far from downtown for my lunch hour and are a bit too greasy.

I am thankful I chose to stick with Deep South Sanitation. Our trash is always picked up right on time and he never leaves anything behind. After all my neighbors' trash is "picked up," often items are strewn by the road and the cans are either left in the road or fallen in or beside the road. Get rid of the big company and move to Deep South, if you want true customer service!

Over 150 applicants applied for the handful of teaching jobs in Lowndes County. Plus, almost every single paraprofessional is a certified teacher who has been waiting patiently, “doing their time.” And, Lake Park Elementary hires a teacher who has quit, not once, but twice before. The "good ole' boy" network at its finest.

Have we progressed to the point where we are arguing about gay marriage? I thought the South was still outraged about blacks being able to marry whites! Hmm...We will catch up to the rest of the world eventually.

I found the cartoon referencing Tim Tebow's Christianity on Thursday's editorial page very offensive. I can agree that many people are out for what God can do for them, not how they can serve God, But I do not see any evidence of that attitude or life style in Tim Tebow's life. Time will tell.

Good riddance to the doctor unable to take Medicaid patients?! Do you work for free? I bet you go to work and expect a paycheck. Why would the doctor be any different? Blame our fearless leaders, not the doctors. And you are WAY out of line questioning whether that person is Christian or not. Sounds like the person who thinks preachers should work for free.

Amazing: Even a judgmental person like yourself can’t even bother to get the facts straight before you criticize something. Jason Collins did an extremely brave thing by coming out in a world filled with people such as yourself. Words of Wisdom: Leave the judging to God.

Raves to Mrs. Kay and Mrs. Sylvia at Cook Primary! They have the best behaved class and are the best teachers in that school!

To all who use Coleman Road as a short cut between Old Highway 41 North and North Valdosta Road, please remember the speed limit is 35, not 65. Tailgating me isn’t going to make me go faster. Remember, it’s our neighborhoods, not your short cut!

I hope Al Sharpton finds time to visit the mother in Brunswick whose baby was shot point blank in the forehead while in his baby stroller. Perhaps the reverend could also counsel the angry young black man who pulled the trigger. Oh wait, the baby was white. Never mind.
