Rant & Rave for Tuesday, May 1, 2012

-- — How can Georgia Power continue with two nuclear plants when our water tables are already dangerously low? Isn’t it about time the legislators worked to protect the citizens and not the corporations? Georgia Power should build more solar plants that don’t use water to cool down reactors and that won’t destroy the state resources.

I for one am glad to pay taxes. With taxes I get good roads, hospitals, schools, police, firefighters and libraries. We get parks and programs. And, hopefully, soon we will get public transportation which will certainly help local businesses.

I also applaud the ordinance of keeping one’s grass mowed.  But what happened to the ordinance of parking on the front  lawns?  What happened to the ordinance of no more than three unrelated people living in a house? Come City of Valdosta, let’s enforce these.

I want to give a big rave to the citizens of Lakeland. Relay for Life Friday night was a huge success, and it was wonderful to see the community so well represented. Thanks for all you did to fight for such a great cause.

It is a shame the Moody jet was not taken care of like it should be.

I was having some tire issues and someone told me to go see Big Jim at Ray Norton. He has the best customer service in Valdosta.

Why does a local dance recital have to be ruined with vulgar music that has to have horrible words “beeped” out? It was uncomfortable and embarrassing.

You know how to break the cycle of generations of welfare and children born into poverty? You get a bill limiting the number of children that welfare will give assistance and limit the number of children exemptions on taxes. For too long, people have been having children they can’t afford in order to get a bigger welfare check and larger families pay little or no taxes. Some even get back more than they pay. This puts a huge burden on the community and the responsible citizens.

S.L. Mason continues to provide the greatest field day around for its students. Thank you Ms. Cassota and Mrs. Skrine for your hard work. Your dedication is appreciated.

Regarding the study on poverty, etc. It is culture. If you rely on government to raise your children, to provide incentive for education, and to give you handouts, you will never better yourselves. This is true for the poor white and the poor black. Have pride in everything you do.

How long is it going to take AT&T telephone and/or Mediacom cable to do something about the vines and bushes  growing over the cable lines at Mt. Zion Church  Road  and Academy Acres. The lines are  pulled down where a 6 foot person can touch them. We won’t have any cable service or phone service if something is not done about this pretty soon.

Alright Sister's Pizza, how am I supposed to cheat on my diet if you stay closed! The other pizza places are too far from downtown for my lunch hour and are a bit too greasy.

I am thankful I chose to stick with Deep South Sanitation. Our trash is always picked up right on time and he never leaves anything behind. After all my neighbors' trash is "picked up," often items are strewn by the road and the cans are either left in the road or fallen in or beside the road. Get rid of the big company and move to Deep South, if you want true customer service!

Over 150 applicants applied for the handful of teaching jobs in Lowndes County. Plus, almost every single paraprofessional is a certified teacher who has been waiting patiently, “doing their time.” And, Lake Park Elementary hires a teacher who has quit, not once, but twice before. The "good ole' boy" network at its finest.

Have we progressed to the point where we are arguing about gay marriage? I thought the South was still outraged about blacks being able to marry whites! Hmm...We will catch up to the rest of the world eventually.

I found the cartoon referencing Tim Tebow's Christianity on Thursday's editorial page very offensive. I can agree that many people are out for what God can do for them, not how they can serve God, But I do not see any evidence of that attitude or life style in Tim Tebow's life. Time will tell.

Good riddance to the doctor unable to take Medicaid patients?! Do you work for free? I bet you go to work and expect a paycheck. Why would the doctor be any different? Blame our fearless leaders, not the doctors. And you are WAY out of line questioning whether that person is Christian or not. Sounds like the person who thinks preachers should work for free.

Amazing: Even a judgmental person like yourself can’t even bother to get the facts straight before you criticize something. Jason Collins did an extremely brave thing by coming out in a world filled with people such as yourself. Words of Wisdom: Leave the judging to God.

Raves to Mrs. Kay and Mrs. Sylvia at Cook Primary! They have the best behaved class and are the best teachers in that school!

To all who use Coleman Road as a short cut between Old Highway 41 North and North Valdosta Road, please remember the speed limit is 35, not 65. Tailgating me isn’t going to make me go faster. Remember, it’s our neighborhoods, not your short cut!
