Rant & Rave for Monday, Dec. 31, 2012

VALDOSTA — My child was admitted to the hospital on Christmas Eve on SGMC’s second Floor. They had Santa to come around and give a gift. That was really nice of them. I would like to say thank you.

Thank you for the interview with Santa Claus article.

What a wonderful organization the Elks Lodge is. They fed my whole family recently and sent us home with several hundred dollars worth of  groceries and gave all my kids presents. I don’t know what we would have done with them. Thank you, Valdosta Elks Lodge!

Thanks to the person who brought my daughter breakfast last Saturday. Her son had just got out of the hospital and it was so appreciated.

A huge rave to the house in Pebble Creek with the Rudolph display. What a treat for all the kids in the neighborhood! Thanks for all the hard work!

Smaller government in Lowndes County means the commissioners believe they have the right to sign my name to a garbage collection contract.

I watched a Lowndes County Constable on Wednesday  drive in and out of traffic on North Valdosta Road, driving faster than the posted speed limit, and tailgating drivers. I found that to be extremely unprofessional. May I suggest that you set the example for others and drive appropriately instead of making people think that it’s OK because if you can do it, so can they.

Way to go, Adel. Lets pave the roads not used and leave the main roads to our hospitals and schools a mess. Good thinking.

City of Valdosta, please get your traffic camera website fixed. It is a shame that half the cameras don't even work, and now it's down completely. Is this how a "metro" area does things?

The county doesn't have to spend tax dollars on letter head paper, they can make a letterhead template in their word processor. They could at least look professional.

Just finished reading “Must Win,” the book on the Valdosta Wildcats. I thought it was a great book. This book showed Valdosta’s love of the ’Cats and football. As a 1974 graduate, I still love my ’Cats. Living in Texas, I don't get to see many games but check papers every Sat. So, go ’Cats, and never never quit!

Thanks to the young man with the red shirt that helped push my car off the street by the mall on Saturday. I really appreciate it.

How long is it going to take AT&T telephone and/or Mediacom cable to do something about the vines and bushes  growing over the cable lines at Mt. Zion Church  Road  and Academy Acres. The lines are  pulled down where a 6 foot person can touch them. We won’t have any cable service or phone service if something is not done about this pretty soon.

Alright Sister's Pizza, how am I supposed to cheat on my diet if you stay closed! The other pizza places are too far from downtown for my lunch hour and are a bit too greasy.

I am thankful I chose to stick with Deep South Sanitation. Our trash is always picked up right on time and he never leaves anything behind. After all my neighbors' trash is "picked up," often items are strewn by the road and the cans are either left in the road or fallen in or beside the road. Get rid of the big company and move to Deep South, if you want true customer service!

Over 150 applicants applied for the handful of teaching jobs in Lowndes County. Plus, almost every single paraprofessional is a certified teacher who has been waiting patiently, “doing their time.” And, Lake Park Elementary hires a teacher who has quit, not once, but twice before. The "good ole' boy" network at its finest.

Have we progressed to the point where we are arguing about gay marriage? I thought the South was still outraged about blacks being able to marry whites! Hmm...We will catch up to the rest of the world eventually.

I found the cartoon referencing Tim Tebow's Christianity on Thursday's editorial page very offensive. I can agree that many people are out for what God can do for them, not how they can serve God, But I do not see any evidence of that attitude or life style in Tim Tebow's life. Time will tell.

Good riddance to the doctor unable to take Medicaid patients?! Do you work for free? I bet you go to work and expect a paycheck. Why would the doctor be any different? Blame our fearless leaders, not the doctors. And you are WAY out of line questioning whether that person is Christian or not. Sounds like the person who thinks preachers should work for free.

Amazing: Even a judgmental person like yourself can’t even bother to get the facts straight before you criticize something. Jason Collins did an extremely brave thing by coming out in a world filled with people such as yourself. Words of Wisdom: Leave the judging to God.

Raves to Mrs. Kay and Mrs. Sylvia at Cook Primary! They have the best behaved class and are the best teachers in that school!

To all who use Coleman Road as a short cut between Old Highway 41 North and North Valdosta Road, please remember the speed limit is 35, not 65. Tailgating me isn’t going to make me go faster. Remember, it’s our neighborhoods, not your short cut!
