Rant & Rave for Monday, Feb. 18, 2013

-- — SGMC employees, there is a sidewalk around the ambulance drive for a reason! Get on it and get out of the middle of the way!

Insurance companies have been jacking up prices for years. But they’re thrilled that you’re blaming the President for their greed.

Responsible parents? Few of them anymore.

Hey, Grump, just don’t read the column that day! Hate to be your mate; you must be a joy!

Former recycling attendant rave: Thank you for giving me more time to do some fishing. I am noticing a lot of trash along the county roads. Some fine resident should load it up and drop it off at one of our commissioners’ houses and let them look at it everyday. The recliner on 376 has been in that ditch for three weeks now.

Someone doesn’t understand the Affordable Healthcare Act if they think you can hire more people and work shorter hours. It’s the total amount of labor added up that is used to determine eligibility.

I know the change with the disposal company is a big transition for a lot of people but I would like to praise the company. It has been an easy transition for our neighborhood and I was pleased after speaking with a very pleasant woman from the company when I called with a question regarding the old cans. So thanks, Advanced Disposal, for working hard to try and make it a smooth transition!

Why does anyone need multiple firearms or an AR-15? Why does anyone need a 400hp car, a private, two-seat jet that can do Mach 2, or venemous reptiles as pets? It’s a matter of choice and, guess what, only one of these is protected by the Constitution.

Referring to the person who said “some people do not handle change well,” concerning the change over to Advance Garbage Collection, I am having a hard time handling the change over to bulk garbage floating in my ditch as I have nowhere else to place it.

At least 56 percent of businesses fail within five years. They are in business to make a profit. If you want to take a chance with your money and time then start a business, hire lots of people — even when government makes it more expensive to operate with fees, taxes, electric. Insurance, water, more insurance, health care — just to mention a few costs and then keep hiring no matter what, and you will be part of the 56 percent. Business owners can do what they want with their money, even burn it.

I am a student at Valdosta State University, I pay thousands of dollars in tuition, but I am not allowed to use the Student Recreation Center because I am not taking summer classes. I was told that I have to pay $45 to use the Rec Center during the summer. As if I don't pay enough already... Utterly ridiculous.

Truly embarrassing that our community euthanizes 12 animals daily. Our citizenry hasn’t progressed to understand responsibility. The end result in these horrible economic times is the ongoing suffering of animals. Other locales nearby have solved this problem; mandatory spay/neuter and breeding licenses are needed to stop this scourge. Let’s get serious, please!

I think what the County Commissioners  are doing to Deep South Sanitation is outrageous and I think the citizens of Lowndes County should remember this during the next election. They are giving away freedom of choice. This man had this trash collection before Advanced.

The City of Valdosta needs another cable company! Competition is a great thing.

Perhaps I'm in the minority, but I'm quite pleased with Advanced Disposal. I'm paying less than I paid for service with Veolia, the service is reliable and they offer a large recycling bin. I don't understand what's "socialist" about offering county residents affordable, reliable service.

Closing the trash drop off was a big mistake. I live in Stone Creek so now I can’t put anything beside the street, now I have to haul it to the landfill and pay by weight. I had to pay $15, then I have to pay the trash pick up monthly. Something is wrong in this picture. I have a lot of yard waste, so now I have to take it to the landfill every time I clean yards.

I live in Brooks County. A while back, a limb fell at the edge of my yard. I called the road department asking to remove it. I was told they could not help because it was on private property. Later driving down Johnson Short Road, I saw the road department removing limbs from a yard. I have found out the limbs were on private property.

Do people in Valdosta not understand that when you lag behind at a green light there are people behind you that will not make the green light due to your inconsideration?

Mosquitoes in the city are growing fast. But sanitation and cable bills in so-called "Metro Valdosta" are growing even faster!

We live in Stone Creek and couldn't be happier with Deep South Sanitation! They are the best. People don't realize that they come get your trash can and put it back on the side of the house! Keep fighting Deep South, and know you have our support!
