Rant & Rave for Friday, April 20, 2012

-- — Did you really just tell people to not cut their yards on Sunday morning? And to wait till you finish lunch?! What if that's their only off time? And, yes, I am the one in church every Sunday and it's never bothered me.

Are you serious? Telling me what time of day (on Sunday) I should start lawn tools is ridiculous. Some people don't go to church on Sunday, or any day for that matter. I pay my mortgage just like you. Therefore, I will run my lawn mower when I please. If you don't like it, call the police and see what they have to say about the matter.

Thank you to the Mrs. McKnight and her staff at Bright Start Preschool, I am so thankful for the great job you all are doing with our kids!

Thanks to Ga. State Troopers Jeremy Kinsey and Israel Henderson for the care and kindness shown to my niece and family on Monday during her wreck. Thanks also to the man who pulled her out of the car and the lady who waited with her until family arrived. Most of all thanks to God for his mercy on Taylor's life.

To those concerned about logging on Long Pond: the man owns the development company which developed the lake and owns the dirt under the water. It is his right to pull trees if he chooses. You all should be more concerned with boater safety.

Who are you to dictate when people mow their lawns? Maybe Sunday is the only day they have off from work to tend to their lawn. If they didn't mow their lawn, I guess you will be writing in about how people should mow their lawns more often! You might need to invest in some ear muffs.

To the person complaining about people doing yard work on Sundays: Did you ever stop to think that maybe the only day some people don't have to work is on Sundays? That leaves only one day to get all household chores completed, meaning they would have to start early to have enough time. Stop being so selfish. Some of these complaints are becoming extremely sickening! It's time to open your eyes to the bigger problems in the world.

Will someone that has a good heart please get the dogs off of Perimeter Road overpass? They need food and a good home. Some cruel cold-hearted person dumped them there to be killed by the rat race drivers.

To the person wondering if we would have a Rant & Rave if people had to sign their name to it: we do. It's called Letters to the Editor.

To the people complaining about running lawn equipment in the morning on Saturday or Sunday. It gets hot in Georgia and it is much cooler early in the morning than in the afternoon. I am NOT gonna run the risk of a heat stroke because you stay up all night OR want a peaceful Sunday. If you don't like it, either go inside your home AND/OR go to bed at a decent time!

What does everyone think of the local government mandate that "the city government considers when you need to mow your grass?"

Does the Valdosta Traffic Division have something against right turn only lanes? Does anyone up there realize we can turn right on red? Why not combine the left turning traffic with the straight lane so people can make right turns on red?

The little walk  track in Dasher, I wonder who paid for it? If it is SPLOST money, it is a waste. If it is federal or state money it is a waste. I have  yet to see anybody walk on it but I’ll keep watching.

Thank you to Victoria at Winn-Dixie in Lake Park for  being honest. I left my cash back in the automatic check out. She found it, and turned it in. Great employee. Keep her Winn-Dixie.

I am a student at Valdosta State University, I pay thousands of dollars in tuition, but I am not allowed to use the Student Recreation Center because I am not taking summer classes. I was told that I have to pay $45 to use the Rec Center during the summer. As if I don't pay enough already... Utterly ridiculous.

Truly embarrassing that our community euthanizes 12 animals daily. Our citizenry hasn’t progressed to understand responsibility. The end result in these horrible economic times is the ongoing suffering of animals. Other locales nearby have solved this problem; mandatory spay/neuter and breeding licenses are needed to stop this scourge. Let’s get serious, please!

I think what the County Commissioners  are doing to Deep South Sanitation is outrageous and I think the citizens of Lowndes County should remember this during the next election. They are giving away freedom of choice. This man had this trash collection before Advanced.

The City of Valdosta needs another cable company! Competition is a great thing.

Perhaps I'm in the minority, but I'm quite pleased with Advanced Disposal. I'm paying less than I paid for service with Veolia, the service is reliable and they offer a large recycling bin. I don't understand what's "socialist" about offering county residents affordable, reliable service.

Closing the trash drop off was a big mistake. I live in Stone Creek so now I can’t put anything beside the street, now I have to haul it to the landfill and pay by weight. I had to pay $15, then I have to pay the trash pick up monthly. Something is wrong in this picture. I have a lot of yard waste, so now I have to take it to the landfill every time I clean yards.

I live in Brooks County. A while back, a limb fell at the edge of my yard. I called the road department asking to remove it. I was told they could not help because it was on private property. Later driving down Johnson Short Road, I saw the road department removing limbs from a yard. I have found out the limbs were on private property.

Do people in Valdosta not understand that when you lag behind at a green light there are people behind you that will not make the green light due to your inconsideration?

Mosquitoes in the city are growing fast. But sanitation and cable bills in so-called "Metro Valdosta" are growing even faster!
