Rant & Rave for Monday, April 23, 2012

-- — I like to sleep in on Monday through Friday. So wait until noon to start your mowers.

To the people complaining about people cutting grass or blowing their clippings, get over it. Just because you want to be lazy doesn’t mean that the people around you do! Have you thought maybe they are doing it early because it gets hot at lunch or after?

I am currently in New York City with my family on a business / leisure trip due to get back Sunday and I can tell all of you driving ranters that you have absolutely nothing to complain about — just spend a week up here and you will be cured of any driving woes in sleepy Valdosta and its surrounding villages!

Our family sleeps just fine in our $300,000-plus home, no thanks to Obama. My husband and I were both born in trailers and have worked hard for many years for everything we have. He paid his own way through college, too! Instead of being jealous, try working hard and lots of prayer and see what you can accomplish!

The rich do not pay a lower tax rate. Every one pays 10 percent on their first $8,700 then 15 percent on all money earned from $8,700 to $35,350 and increases as you go up. So if you make $35,000 you pay 10 percent on $8,700 then pay 15 percent on $26,300.

As an elderly woman I wish to say that I greatly appreciate the Valdosta Fire Department for coming to my home to replace the batteries in my smoke detectors.

Thank you to the brave lady who responded with “Laughable” to the “Questions” letter writer. So often in Valdosta, thinking people of goodwill are reluctant to speak out because they become marginalized and ridiculed by dividers and haters; so thank you kind lady for reminding us to care about one another.

Have the Industrial Authority and the Chamber of Commerce created any jobs or done anything useful these past 12 months?

Those who oppose Obamacare need to think about the great number who cannot.

Too many billboards is an eyesore that harms the image of our state.

Hahira is becoming a speed trap now that there are two more policemen and two new cars to pay for. Be careful while you are here, come to a complete stop at stop signs and watch your speed. A rolling stop will cost you $125.

I am thankful I chose to stick with Deep South Sanitation. Our trash is always picked up right on time and he never leaves anything behind. After all my neighbors' trash is "picked up," often items are strewn by the road and the cans are either left in the road or fallen in or beside the road. Get rid of the big company and move to Deep South, if you want true customer service!

Over 150 applicants applied for the handful of teaching jobs in Lowndes County. Plus, almost every single paraprofessional is a certified teacher who has been waiting patiently, “doing their time.” And, Lake Park Elementary hires a teacher who has quit, not once, but twice before. The "good ole' boy" network at its finest.

Have we progressed to the point where we are arguing about gay marriage? I thought the South was still outraged about blacks being able to marry whites! Hmm...We will catch up to the rest of the world eventually.

I found the cartoon referencing Tim Tebow's Christianity on Thursday's editorial page very offensive. I can agree that many people are out for what God can do for them, not how they can serve God, But I do not see any evidence of that attitude or life style in Tim Tebow's life. Time will tell.

Good riddance to the doctor unable to take Medicaid patients?! Do you work for free? I bet you go to work and expect a paycheck. Why would the doctor be any different? Blame our fearless leaders, not the doctors. And you are WAY out of line questioning whether that person is Christian or not. Sounds like the person who thinks preachers should work for free.

Amazing: Even a judgmental person like yourself can’t even bother to get the facts straight before you criticize something. Jason Collins did an extremely brave thing by coming out in a world filled with people such as yourself. Words of Wisdom: Leave the judging to God.

Raves to Mrs. Kay and Mrs. Sylvia at Cook Primary! They have the best behaved class and are the best teachers in that school!

To all who use Coleman Road as a short cut between Old Highway 41 North and North Valdosta Road, please remember the speed limit is 35, not 65. Tailgating me isn’t going to make me go faster. Remember, it’s our neighborhoods, not your short cut!

I hope Al Sharpton finds time to visit the mother in Brunswick whose baby was shot point blank in the forehead while in his baby stroller. Perhaps the reverend could also counsel the angry young black man who pulled the trigger. Oh wait, the baby was white. Never mind.

I thought that all schools had dress codes that the teachers and substitutes had to follow? When I walk into the school it looks like they are headed to the pool instead of the classroom. Tank tops and skimpy skirts are not allowed. Come on, administration, make them follow the rules. Thank you, to the teachers and staff that do adhere to the dress code.
