Rant and Raves for Friday, December 7, 2012

VALDOSTA — A big rave for the Valdosta Middle School Christmas band concert. The band sounded great and the percussion ensemble was fantastic!

What is wrong with some of you people? It bothers you that badly that pastors get paid? Not all of their salary comes straight from tithes. I personally volunteer as a teacher and have several leader positions in the church. And I can speak with certainty that it does not bother me, nor the other church volunteers, that we do not get paid, but our pastor does.

Got a solution to immigration and over population. Those who want to come to America legally, and work as a citizen, please let them come. Those who so desperately want to secede from the union, let them go to Mexico, there...problem solved.

To the person complaining about your precious "tax" dollars being used to subsidize the person living on $330/month, you are actually subzidizing all those without health insurance now who use the hospital emergency rooms for health care and can't pay. President Obama's plan is for more people to pay into the system that everyone uses.

The citizens of Lowndes voted against the SPLOST because they disapproved of the projects. Most however will agree with the fairness of the tax.

Has anything been heard about paving White Water Road? This street is getting worse from the beginning to the end of it. Please pave it, not patch it.

Please help protect Moody AFB. Please call your county commissioner (there are currently three that will vote on Tuesday) and ask them to vote NO on the ULDC text amendment. We cannot take a gamble and lose the base.

To the ranter that had to wait only 30 minutes for an ambulance, consider yourself lucky! In Lanier County, we have to wait for another county to send one because ours is either busy or on another call.

As a VCS teacher, allow me to say that if you are unable to teach to the new standards and are stressed out by them or your students, perhaps you should find a new career.

I work for a local company and every day I try to be very kind to all of my patrons by saying some form of greeting. Most of them just look at me as if I'm crazy and dont say a word in return. What happened to southern hospitality?

Over 150 applicants applied for the handful of teaching jobs in Lowndes County. Plus, almost every single paraprofessional is a certified teacher who has been waiting patiently, “doing their time.” And, Lake Park Elementary hires a teacher who has quit, not once, but twice before. The "good ole' boy" network at its finest.

Have we progressed to the point where we are arguing about gay marriage? I thought the South was still outraged about blacks being able to marry whites! Hmm...We will catch up to the rest of the world eventually.

I found the cartoon referencing Tim Tebow's Christianity on Thursday's editorial page very offensive. I can agree that many people are out for what God can do for them, not how they can serve God, But I do not see any evidence of that attitude or life style in Tim Tebow's life. Time will tell.

Good riddance to the doctor unable to take Medicaid patients?! Do you work for free? I bet you go to work and expect a paycheck. Why would the doctor be any different? Blame our fearless leaders, not the doctors. And you are WAY out of line questioning whether that person is Christian or not. Sounds like the person who thinks preachers should work for free.

Amazing: Even a judgmental person like yourself can’t even bother to get the facts straight before you criticize something. Jason Collins did an extremely brave thing by coming out in a world filled with people such as yourself. Words of Wisdom: Leave the judging to God.

Raves to Mrs. Kay and Mrs. Sylvia at Cook Primary! They have the best behaved class and are the best teachers in that school!

To all who use Coleman Road as a short cut between Old Highway 41 North and North Valdosta Road, please remember the speed limit is 35, not 65. Tailgating me isn’t going to make me go faster. Remember, it’s our neighborhoods, not your short cut!

I hope Al Sharpton finds time to visit the mother in Brunswick whose baby was shot point blank in the forehead while in his baby stroller. Perhaps the reverend could also counsel the angry young black man who pulled the trigger. Oh wait, the baby was white. Never mind.

I thought that all schools had dress codes that the teachers and substitutes had to follow? When I walk into the school it looks like they are headed to the pool instead of the classroom. Tank tops and skimpy skirts are not allowed. Come on, administration, make them follow the rules. Thank you, to the teachers and staff that do adhere to the dress code.

Property tax should be based on value. School taxes should be separate and assessed to each household equally, no exemptions. The rich, middle and poor should pay equally for children's public education.
