Rant & Rave for Monday, Dec. 10, 2012

- — Will the addition of a few more houses around the base be worth losing 6,000 jobs and hundreds of millions of dollars it brings to our local economy each year? Not to mention losing more teaching jobs and educational funding when all the families move away. To quote our friends from MNF “Come on Man.” Things are bad enough. Let's not cut our noses off to spite our faces.

I dread the construction phase of the Hill Avenue overpass, but look forward to having it. Now if only our local leaders could possess the wisdom to add overpasses for St. Augustine and Baytree to the next SPLOST. I think they would be amazed at the support.

Valdosta does not have traffic flow. Valdosta has traffic jerk. Drive from one red light to the next  stop. And so forth and so forth.

Obama's health plan will also penalize anyone that doesn't have health insurance with a nice fine. Also, if you read it, the government will have access to bank accounts at will.

For many years, I have taken the oath "...to protect and defend the constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic...". Until now I didn't really understand what a domestic enemy was. Obama and the radical left is the greatest enemy in our history.

I don't do nice things to receive a thank you. I do nice things as a way of saying thank you to God, who delivers grace.

Southern hospitality hasn't gone anywhere. Some people have it, some people don't. When I pass by people I try to look them in the eyes and smile and 99 percent of the time they do the same to me. I get a lot of "good mornings" and "how are you?" from people on a daily basis.

What would it take to get the county school buses to slow down on Fiveash Road? I sent an email to no avail. Even though the speed limit is 35, does it mean the buses have to go that speed?

My family has seen many Christmas lights but that light show down toward Madison is the heat. I talked to Mr. Roebuck and he said they have 200,000 lights on this show. Special thanks to him and his family for doing this for us to enjoy.

Go TitleTown! Vote VHS and LHS game number one in nation. Get to voting on USA Today.

Everyone needs to go online and vote for Valdosta and Lowndes football. The voting now shows them fifth in regional area.

How long is it going to take AT&T telephone and/or Mediacom cable to do something about the vines and bushes  growing over the cable lines at Mt. Zion Church  Road  and Academy Acres. The lines are  pulled down where a 6 foot person can touch them. We won’t have any cable service or phone service if something is not done about this pretty soon.

Alright Sister's Pizza, how am I supposed to cheat on my diet if you stay closed! The other pizza places are too far from downtown for my lunch hour and are a bit too greasy.

I am thankful I chose to stick with Deep South Sanitation. Our trash is always picked up right on time and he never leaves anything behind. After all my neighbors' trash is "picked up," often items are strewn by the road and the cans are either left in the road or fallen in or beside the road. Get rid of the big company and move to Deep South, if you want true customer service!

Over 150 applicants applied for the handful of teaching jobs in Lowndes County. Plus, almost every single paraprofessional is a certified teacher who has been waiting patiently, “doing their time.” And, Lake Park Elementary hires a teacher who has quit, not once, but twice before. The "good ole' boy" network at its finest.

Have we progressed to the point where we are arguing about gay marriage? I thought the South was still outraged about blacks being able to marry whites! Hmm...We will catch up to the rest of the world eventually.

I found the cartoon referencing Tim Tebow's Christianity on Thursday's editorial page very offensive. I can agree that many people are out for what God can do for them, not how they can serve God, But I do not see any evidence of that attitude or life style in Tim Tebow's life. Time will tell.

Good riddance to the doctor unable to take Medicaid patients?! Do you work for free? I bet you go to work and expect a paycheck. Why would the doctor be any different? Blame our fearless leaders, not the doctors. And you are WAY out of line questioning whether that person is Christian or not. Sounds like the person who thinks preachers should work for free.

Amazing: Even a judgmental person like yourself can’t even bother to get the facts straight before you criticize something. Jason Collins did an extremely brave thing by coming out in a world filled with people such as yourself. Words of Wisdom: Leave the judging to God.

Raves to Mrs. Kay and Mrs. Sylvia at Cook Primary! They have the best behaved class and are the best teachers in that school!

To all who use Coleman Road as a short cut between Old Highway 41 North and North Valdosta Road, please remember the speed limit is 35, not 65. Tailgating me isn’t going to make me go faster. Remember, it’s our neighborhoods, not your short cut!
