Rant & Rave for Monday, Dec. 17, 2012

-- — Why would you allow a child of a drunken restaurant patron to continue to thump you on the head without complaining to management?

Got blown away in USAToday contest. Didn’t need the money or pride. Never would have believed that Lowndes County would have gave up. Losing your touch.

A great big Rave to Gary at SGMC Pulmonary Department. Thank you for being so friendly and kind to our mother. She will never forget you. You made her day with your kindness. Keep up the good work.

That chick is either new to “Winnersville” or one crayon short of an eight pack, because that “Seasons Greetings” sign has been at Five Points for at least 20 years. With that being said, if I were to rule the world it would read, “Merry Christmas, Y’all!”

I love the Snoopy on Jerry Jones and the Christmas cards, displayed in Eager subdivision. But, folks, check out a home in Cross Creek, located off of Bemiss. It is amazing! There are over 1,000 lights and the family starts working on it weeks before Halloween. Enjoy!

All intersections on Perimeter have a red light but Howell Road. There are two elementary schools near and traffic is horrible. Our children’s lives must not be a priority. What does it take a busload to be hit by a semi or log truck?

Kudos to the sweet lady at the Inner Perimeter Post Office for helping my mother-in-law with her Christmas cards. You did an amazing job!

I don’t see anything wrong with the legalizing marijuana. While I do not use it nor want to use it, I believe it is safer than cigarettes, alcohol and prescription drugs.

Kids these days have no respect for anyone. It is absurd. They are not taught manners, respect for their elders and have no sense of get-up-and-go. I dislike being around this new crop of kids.

I really pray that the GBI, FBI, Valdosta City Police and VSU find out what happened to Jasmine Benjamin. My thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends.

I agree. Valdosta should be renamed, “Trafficlightville,” instead of “Winnersville.”

Congratulations to the Chamber of Commerce on a great parade and festival in Lake Park on Saturday. It was awesome! Thank you for all your hard work!

The pathetic drum-machine versions over classics is an insult to the original artist and the song itself.

Over 150 applicants applied for the handful of teaching jobs in Lowndes County. Plus, almost every single paraprofessional is a certified teacher who has been waiting patiently, “doing their time.” And, Lake Park Elementary hires a teacher who has quit, not once, but twice before. The "good ole' boy" network at its finest.

Have we progressed to the point where we are arguing about gay marriage? I thought the South was still outraged about blacks being able to marry whites! Hmm...We will catch up to the rest of the world eventually.

I found the cartoon referencing Tim Tebow's Christianity on Thursday's editorial page very offensive. I can agree that many people are out for what God can do for them, not how they can serve God, But I do not see any evidence of that attitude or life style in Tim Tebow's life. Time will tell.

Good riddance to the doctor unable to take Medicaid patients?! Do you work for free? I bet you go to work and expect a paycheck. Why would the doctor be any different? Blame our fearless leaders, not the doctors. And you are WAY out of line questioning whether that person is Christian or not. Sounds like the person who thinks preachers should work for free.

Amazing: Even a judgmental person like yourself can’t even bother to get the facts straight before you criticize something. Jason Collins did an extremely brave thing by coming out in a world filled with people such as yourself. Words of Wisdom: Leave the judging to God.

Raves to Mrs. Kay and Mrs. Sylvia at Cook Primary! They have the best behaved class and are the best teachers in that school!

To all who use Coleman Road as a short cut between Old Highway 41 North and North Valdosta Road, please remember the speed limit is 35, not 65. Tailgating me isn’t going to make me go faster. Remember, it’s our neighborhoods, not your short cut!

I hope Al Sharpton finds time to visit the mother in Brunswick whose baby was shot point blank in the forehead while in his baby stroller. Perhaps the reverend could also counsel the angry young black man who pulled the trigger. Oh wait, the baby was white. Never mind.

I thought that all schools had dress codes that the teachers and substitutes had to follow? When I walk into the school it looks like they are headed to the pool instead of the classroom. Tank tops and skimpy skirts are not allowed. Come on, administration, make them follow the rules. Thank you, to the teachers and staff that do adhere to the dress code.

Property tax should be based on value. School taxes should be separate and assessed to each household equally, no exemptions. The rich, middle and poor should pay equally for children's public education.
