VALDOSTA —
Someone please explain why I, a Lowndes County resident, got a City of Valdosta Water newsletter. There goes your taxes at work, city residents.
Most of these immigrant-haters are of British or French lineage. Earlier in America's history they also resented Polish, Italian, and Irish immigrants. Western European bigots that call themselves patriots. Hah!
I saw on TV today about all the flooding in Live Oak, Fla. and all those stalled cars and you would think at a time like this your neighbors and people around would want to help instead of taking advantage of those who need help. The tow people are charging $75 and up to tow cars out of water-flooded streets.
Don't hate on women that are blessed enough to be able to stay home. That's just jealousy.
I recently overheard a young person telling a friend, "I don't know why old people get so fired up about my peach card. I ain't hurting nobody!" Let me clarify. When I'm behind you at the checkout, and I see your steaks and name-brand items after I have carefully picked what I can afford on my two-job salary, it really fires me up! Then after I have helped you save so much on your groceries, you have money to buy your beer! And you wonder why we get mad?
There's that lie about Indians as the only “True Americans" again. Some uneducated fool has never heard of the Bering Strait land bridge (Alaska) and Kennewick Man, a non-Indian, who pre-dates the Indians by thousands of years. Basic anthropology: Indians were not "here first."
Who is minding the store? On Sunday I went to the Pine Grove recycling center. I was shocked that there was no one checking permits. There was a non-attendant sitting in the little booth and then I saw the attendant inside the office building with the door closed. All I could see was his bright green shirt. Why have a permit if no one checks them?
All this anti-illegal immigrant stuff has some valid points, but if you came from where these people came from, you'd take the same risks they did to come here. Most of you have no idea about those risks either.
Why is Valdosta always getting blasted for not hiring enough blacks? Has Rev. Rose ever looked at Lowndes? It’s the same community. My children have gone through Lowndes system and never had a black teacher and they turned out fine. I am black and that was my least concern. If they were learning and were safe I was fine.

Over 150 applicants applied for the handful of teaching jobs in Lowndes County. Plus, almost every single paraprofessional is a certified teacher who has been waiting patiently, “doing their time.” And, Lake Park Elementary hires a teacher who has quit, not once, but twice before. The "good ole' boy" network at its finest.

Have we progressed to the point where we are arguing about gay marriage? I thought the South was still outraged about blacks being able to marry whites! Hmm...We will catch up to the rest of the world eventually.

I found the cartoon referencing Tim Tebow's Christianity on Thursday's editorial page very offensive. I can agree that many people are out for what God can do for them, not how they can serve God, But I do not see any evidence of that attitude or life style in Tim Tebow's life. Time will tell.

Good riddance to the doctor unable to take Medicaid patients?! Do you work for free? I bet you go to work and expect a paycheck. Why would the doctor be any different? Blame our fearless leaders, not the doctors. And you are WAY out of line questioning whether that person is Christian or not. Sounds like the person who thinks preachers should work for free.

Amazing: Even a judgmental person like yourself can’t even bother to get the facts straight before you criticize something. Jason Collins did an extremely brave thing by coming out in a world filled with people such as yourself. Words of Wisdom: Leave the judging to God.

To all who use Coleman Road as a short cut between Old Highway 41 North and North Valdosta Road, please remember the speed limit is 35, not 65. Tailgating me isn’t going to make me go faster. Remember, it’s our neighborhoods, not your short cut!

I hope Al Sharpton finds time to visit the mother in Brunswick whose baby was shot point blank in the forehead while in his baby stroller. Perhaps the reverend could also counsel the angry young black man who pulled the trigger. Oh wait, the baby was white. Never mind.

I thought that all schools had dress codes that the teachers and substitutes had to follow? When I walk into the school it looks like they are headed to the pool instead of the classroom. Tank tops and skimpy skirts are not allowed. Come on, administration, make them follow the rules. Thank you, to the teachers and staff that do adhere to the dress code.

Property tax should be based on value. School taxes should be separate and assessed to each household equally, no exemptions. The rich, middle and poor should pay equally for children's public education.
