Rant and Raves for Tuesday, July 3, 2012

-- — One of the major complaints of residents living in the Valdosta area deals with the inconsistent traffic flow. T-SPLOST will help fund projects such as widening roads and creating overpasses that will drastically improve Valdosta's traffic problem.

The Native American Indians may not have been "here first," but they were here "before us."

Isn't hiring a person based on color just as racist as hiring someone not based on color? What happened to qualifications?

I would like to thank the two ladies who followed me home from the gas station to return my gas cap to me when I left it on top of my car. I appreciate your effort to get it back to me, thank you so much!

The ranter who complained about having to go to the Hudson Dockett area to vote did not mention race - only the "counter-rant" brought race into it. That area of town is known for crime, and good people, black or white, tend to avoid it if they can.

Why is it that someone who has never attended a TEA party meeting or event feels they are an expert on the subject?

Under Obamacare I can keep my young adult son on my medical insurance policy, but that will increase my premium an additional $201 per month. Why didn't the media inform us about this cost?!

To the individual who picked up my granddaughter's iPod Saturday afternoon at the Berrian County Hospital, please return it to the hospital. My granddaughter's heart is saddened that someone would do this. Please find it in your heart to turn it in. Doing the right thing always has its rewards.

Turner Classic Movies movie channel sponsored showings of "Casablanca" and "Singin' in the Rain" in movie theaters recently but did Valdosta show them? NO. The theater here shows opera and rock concerts, why not classic films?

Right on Obama and Scotus. I will save $1,000 this year on prescriptions and my son will  now be able to purchase insurance even though he has a pre-existing condition. I for one is grateful for ObamaCare.

I wish my parents were hard on my younger siblings as they were hard on us. I learned excellent work skills and everything that they made me do as a kid made me a stronger person. My spoiled siblings will never make it in the real world.

Over 150 applicants applied for the handful of teaching jobs in Lowndes County. Plus, almost every single paraprofessional is a certified teacher who has been waiting patiently, “doing their time.” And, Lake Park Elementary hires a teacher who has quit, not once, but twice before. The "good ole' boy" network at its finest.

Have we progressed to the point where we are arguing about gay marriage? I thought the South was still outraged about blacks being able to marry whites! Hmm...We will catch up to the rest of the world eventually.

I found the cartoon referencing Tim Tebow's Christianity on Thursday's editorial page very offensive. I can agree that many people are out for what God can do for them, not how they can serve God, But I do not see any evidence of that attitude or life style in Tim Tebow's life. Time will tell.

Good riddance to the doctor unable to take Medicaid patients?! Do you work for free? I bet you go to work and expect a paycheck. Why would the doctor be any different? Blame our fearless leaders, not the doctors. And you are WAY out of line questioning whether that person is Christian or not. Sounds like the person who thinks preachers should work for free.

Amazing: Even a judgmental person like yourself can’t even bother to get the facts straight before you criticize something. Jason Collins did an extremely brave thing by coming out in a world filled with people such as yourself. Words of Wisdom: Leave the judging to God.

Raves to Mrs. Kay and Mrs. Sylvia at Cook Primary! They have the best behaved class and are the best teachers in that school!

To all who use Coleman Road as a short cut between Old Highway 41 North and North Valdosta Road, please remember the speed limit is 35, not 65. Tailgating me isn’t going to make me go faster. Remember, it’s our neighborhoods, not your short cut!

I hope Al Sharpton finds time to visit the mother in Brunswick whose baby was shot point blank in the forehead while in his baby stroller. Perhaps the reverend could also counsel the angry young black man who pulled the trigger. Oh wait, the baby was white. Never mind.

I thought that all schools had dress codes that the teachers and substitutes had to follow? When I walk into the school it looks like they are headed to the pool instead of the classroom. Tank tops and skimpy skirts are not allowed. Come on, administration, make them follow the rules. Thank you, to the teachers and staff that do adhere to the dress code.

Property tax should be based on value. School taxes should be separate and assessed to each household equally, no exemptions. The rich, middle and poor should pay equally for children's public education.
