No Food Stamps Card should be used for crab legs. Get a job and pay for your luxury items like I have to do. We need change in food stamp purchases!
What are some of those nice cops doing behind those legal, tinted windows?
I want to express a sincere thanks to Dr. Paul and all his staff at Express Care Medical Clinic on St. Augustine. I, like many others in these times, have no medical insurance. The office call is affordable. I also must add that they have the best bedside manners at a medical office that I have ever seen.
I am glad Valdosta City Schools do not give zeroes. An F ranges from a 0 to a 69. As, Bs, and Cs fall within a 10-point range. Not very fair! An incomplete assignment should equal a 60. No less! The grading system used in this country is a joke and outdated.
I see nothing wrong with the new grading policy at our public schools. This resembles how they teach in private schools. Students in private schools are taught at pace. They don’t move to the next level until their current level is mastered. If a child moves to the next level without mastering the first, wouldn’t they just be learning more stuff they don’t know? You can’t teach a child what a pronoun is, if they don’t know what a noun is.
Having read a week’s worth of rants against Lowndes School’s new grading policy, it is painfully clear people have absolutely no understanding of the policy. First, it applies to grades 3 through 8, not high school. Those kids who think they can slack off on purpose will soon be way behind their peers. Wouldn’t you rather children at the elementary level be given a chance to “get it” before being pushed forward? This will provide kids a stronger foundation to succeed in high school, than in the real world.
When the National Chamber of Commerce aligns with the antediluvian Heritage Foundation we cannot expect our local Chamber affiliate to have any respect whatever for the populace.
Lowndes County Schools' leadership is awesome, from superintendent to the teachers. Some parents and lazy students are the problem.
Will the VDT please stop using the front page for all the arts and opera venues. The front page should be reserved for more important news. Thank you.

No wonder! I haven’t seen the Peanut Lady at my son’s baseball game in a while. ... The Peanut Lady has been selling at ball games forever. Shame on whoever banned the Peanut Lady!

I know two LMS students who have continuously been in trouble this year and had mostly failing grades; however, now they are being promoted because teachers no longer can give zeros, but have to record a 60, even for assignments not turned in! How is it ethical to give grades that weren’t earned and what does this teach about responsibility and consequence?

If you cannot watch your children, perhaps you shouldn’t have children.

Concerning taking up multiple parking spots in “public” lots. Remember that these are mostly on private lots (including Walmart) and the only reason they don’t say anything is because they don’t want you taking your money elsewhere. A little courtesy, especially on busy days, goes a long way.

Are we really replacing hard-working persons with illegal aliens just to save a few dollars? Business owners should be wary and take care of those who have helped them get where they are now!

To the person who is referring to people complaining about people being on welfare; no one was pin-pointing you. I have been simply referring to the people to openly advertise how they cheat the system and never have to work, and live better than I do. And, for your information, I too am a single mother who struggles everyday to provide for my son. So, honey, I have walked a mile if not more in my own shoes of despair.

I have also heard the gunshots in Hahira. I’ve lived there for years but it seems to have gotten worse lately. I tried to tell a policeman in the store the other day but ... The last time I heard the shots was actually a couple Sundays ago, around lunchtime. I've assumed it was people hunting in the woods around Union Road but the shot pattern didn’t sound conducive to this last time.

I too would like to see a minor league baseball team located in Valdosta, but I doubt if it would be supported well enough to justify.
