Rant & Raves for Wednesday, January 16, 2013

VALDOSTA — Editor’s Note: Every Wednesday is an “all rave” day in The Valdosta Daily Times. If you have a rave you’d like to share, please call (229) 244-3400, ext. 418 or submit online at www.valdostadailytimes.com.

Here's a great rave! Praise God for all blessings, large or small. Don't take anything for granted as most do.

Thanks so much for the all raves on Wednesdays! It is refreshing and uplifting to see and hear of all the "good" that is happening in the Valdosta area. We appreciate all the positive, good vibrations!

A Rave to the city of Hahira for putting on nice community events such as the Honey Bee Festival. Maybe the city could revive the Great Hahira Pick-In.

If you like real Mexican food then I strongly suggest El Cazador on Ashley. The corn tortilla chips are fresh and hot, the sauce refreshing, the main dishes are "homemade.” The chili rellenos are the best I have ever tasted. Save room for the flan. El Cazador is Five Stars.

A rave to the lady driving the truck who stopped to give groceries to the homeless lady sitting outside of the AT&T store on Norman Drive. It brought me to tears!

Thanks to Redland Baptist Church and all the people in the community for helping us when our 129-year-old church burned on Christmas Day. Thanks for all your help and prayers.

I fell at my apartment and the young postal lady rushed to my side and stayed with me. Thank you!

Folks, if you are thinking of purchasing any type of office supplies, you might want to consider buying them at Office Depot, located at the mall, here in Valdosta. My husband and I recently bought an office chair there, and found the entire staff to be very friendly and helpful. Special thanks to Eric who was especially patient with my husband on the phone.

How long is it going to take AT&T telephone and/or Mediacom cable to do something about the vines and bushes  growing over the cable lines at Mt. Zion Church  Road  and Academy Acres. The lines are  pulled down where a 6 foot person can touch them. We won’t have any cable service or phone service if something is not done about this pretty soon.

Alright Sister's Pizza, how am I supposed to cheat on my diet if you stay closed! The other pizza places are too far from downtown for my lunch hour and are a bit too greasy.

I am thankful I chose to stick with Deep South Sanitation. Our trash is always picked up right on time and he never leaves anything behind. After all my neighbors' trash is "picked up," often items are strewn by the road and the cans are either left in the road or fallen in or beside the road. Get rid of the big company and move to Deep South, if you want true customer service!

Over 150 applicants applied for the handful of teaching jobs in Lowndes County. Plus, almost every single paraprofessional is a certified teacher who has been waiting patiently, “doing their time.” And, Lake Park Elementary hires a teacher who has quit, not once, but twice before. The "good ole' boy" network at its finest.

Have we progressed to the point where we are arguing about gay marriage? I thought the South was still outraged about blacks being able to marry whites! Hmm...We will catch up to the rest of the world eventually.

I found the cartoon referencing Tim Tebow's Christianity on Thursday's editorial page very offensive. I can agree that many people are out for what God can do for them, not how they can serve God, But I do not see any evidence of that attitude or life style in Tim Tebow's life. Time will tell.

Good riddance to the doctor unable to take Medicaid patients?! Do you work for free? I bet you go to work and expect a paycheck. Why would the doctor be any different? Blame our fearless leaders, not the doctors. And you are WAY out of line questioning whether that person is Christian or not. Sounds like the person who thinks preachers should work for free.

Amazing: Even a judgmental person like yourself can’t even bother to get the facts straight before you criticize something. Jason Collins did an extremely brave thing by coming out in a world filled with people such as yourself. Words of Wisdom: Leave the judging to God.

Raves to Mrs. Kay and Mrs. Sylvia at Cook Primary! They have the best behaved class and are the best teachers in that school!

To all who use Coleman Road as a short cut between Old Highway 41 North and North Valdosta Road, please remember the speed limit is 35, not 65. Tailgating me isn’t going to make me go faster. Remember, it’s our neighborhoods, not your short cut!
