Rant & Rave for Friday, Jan. 25, 2013

-- — Drivers! When turning left into the mall parking lot from Gornto Road, remember that those making a right-hand turn into the mall parking lot do not  have a yield sign. They do not have to stop, and if you hit them, it will be your fault. Just because it’s two lanes doesn’t mean you can turn into the left lane. A lot of us who are turning right, are then moving directly into the left lane to turn into Publix parking lot. Pay attention.

A big rave to Tommy at SGMC. Thank you so much. I was freezing as I waited for my sister to get a cat-scan. You came and asked if I was cold and came back with someone bringing both her (the patient) and me a warm blanket. It really meant a lot. It’s the little people that make a big difference. Thanks again!

Rave to the Tucker family in Clyattville. For the last 20 years, they have given to a community the third Saturday in December. They usually feed about 300-400 people. It is a nice way to bring the community together. Thank you.

Rave to Calvin who works in the shoe department at Belk’s. He always has a smile on his face no matter how busy the store is and he always goes out of his way to help you.

A huge rave to everyone who volunteers at the Partnership for Health Clinic. If it were not for caring people like you all, I would not have any health care at all. Thank you to everyone there! You are appreciated.

Love, love, love the Wednesday Raves! I wish this was every day! I firmly believe that if more good news was reported, we would see more positivity in our daily lives, instead of the doom and gloom that comes from the front page or headline news.

Many raves to Search and Rescue who will now be featured worldwide by National Geographic. We are very proud of the men and women who risk their lives. Many raves!

Why isn’t the Berrien County superintendent job advertised? It has been open for months, yet it is not on Teach Georgia or the Berrien Schools job announcement page. It seems as if they have advertised as little as possible, to not draw attention to the job opening. Maybe to slide someone into that position who isn’t really qualified for it!

Rant to the Lowndes County Utility Department for finally setting up online payments for water bills but then tacking on a $2 service fee to use it ... cash my check, postage is still cheaper.

I am thankful I chose to stick with Deep South Sanitation. Our trash is always picked up right on time and he never leaves anything behind. After all my neighbors' trash is "picked up," often items are strewn by the road and the cans are either left in the road or fallen in or beside the road. Get rid of the big company and move to Deep South, if you want true customer service!

Over 150 applicants applied for the handful of teaching jobs in Lowndes County. Plus, almost every single paraprofessional is a certified teacher who has been waiting patiently, “doing their time.” And, Lake Park Elementary hires a teacher who has quit, not once, but twice before. The "good ole' boy" network at its finest.

Have we progressed to the point where we are arguing about gay marriage? I thought the South was still outraged about blacks being able to marry whites! Hmm...We will catch up to the rest of the world eventually.

I found the cartoon referencing Tim Tebow's Christianity on Thursday's editorial page very offensive. I can agree that many people are out for what God can do for them, not how they can serve God, But I do not see any evidence of that attitude or life style in Tim Tebow's life. Time will tell.

Good riddance to the doctor unable to take Medicaid patients?! Do you work for free? I bet you go to work and expect a paycheck. Why would the doctor be any different? Blame our fearless leaders, not the doctors. And you are WAY out of line questioning whether that person is Christian or not. Sounds like the person who thinks preachers should work for free.

Amazing: Even a judgmental person like yourself can’t even bother to get the facts straight before you criticize something. Jason Collins did an extremely brave thing by coming out in a world filled with people such as yourself. Words of Wisdom: Leave the judging to God.

Raves to Mrs. Kay and Mrs. Sylvia at Cook Primary! They have the best behaved class and are the best teachers in that school!

To all who use Coleman Road as a short cut between Old Highway 41 North and North Valdosta Road, please remember the speed limit is 35, not 65. Tailgating me isn’t going to make me go faster. Remember, it’s our neighborhoods, not your short cut!

I hope Al Sharpton finds time to visit the mother in Brunswick whose baby was shot point blank in the forehead while in his baby stroller. Perhaps the reverend could also counsel the angry young black man who pulled the trigger. Oh wait, the baby was white. Never mind.

I thought that all schools had dress codes that the teachers and substitutes had to follow? When I walk into the school it looks like they are headed to the pool instead of the classroom. Tank tops and skimpy skirts are not allowed. Come on, administration, make them follow the rules. Thank you, to the teachers and staff that do adhere to the dress code.
