Rant and Raves for Thursday, April 19, 2012

VALDOSTA — Let’s make it clear: Bush nor Obama are to blame for high gas prices. It’s the speculators. You people driving around in huge vehicles then complain about high prices. Get something smaller.

Please be aware that April is Child Abuse Prevention Month. Domestic violence is the leading cause of injury to women between the ages of 15 and 44 in the United States. Thirty percent to 60 percent of perpetrators of intimate partner violence also abuse children in the household. Please report suspected child abuse. You may save a life.

I guess if you get a headache, it’s Obama's fault! The rich get richer, and shame the middle and lower classes by accusing us of laziness. How do you rest at night in your $200,000-plus homes?

To the city school bus driver, I feel for you. The old saying the apple don’t fall far from the tree, just take a look at where you pick up some of these students at and their parents. The parents are the biggest failure of today’s children. God bless you for taking on such a job.

Whomever wrote the comment about the busy bodies, you are so right. The sadness about it is some of them are church members. If you’re not asking a question to help someone then don’t ask. It’s a shame some of the questions they ask and some are personal questions. Touch your nose.

Kudos to Jane Robertson and Wild Adventures for their community engagement and support!

To the bus driver for Newbern Middle School: Why is it that you think it is the education system’s problem that the students riding your bus have no respect for authority or property? When you pick them up from home in the morning, you bring them to school just like that, so wouldn’t this be a parental issue?

I wonder if we would have       a Rant and Rave              section if people had        to sign their name to their comments? Just curious.

Be careful of giving out personal information (name, address, date of birth, Social Security number) every time it’s asked to be provided. As a victim of ID theft, my tax return was rejected, and who knows what else is affected.

Why is it that pointing       out that the rich pay a lower tax rate than everybody else is class warfare?

I like to sleep late on          Saturday, so keep your lawnmower, leaf blower, etc. off until after lunch.

How long is it going to take AT&T telephone and/or Mediacom cable to do something about the vines and bushes  growing over the cable lines at Mt. Zion Church  Road  and Academy Acres. The lines are  pulled down where a 6 foot person can touch them. We won’t have any cable service or phone service if something is not done about this pretty soon.

Alright Sister's Pizza, how am I supposed to cheat on my diet if you stay closed! The other pizza places are too far from downtown for my lunch hour and are a bit too greasy.

I am thankful I chose to stick with Deep South Sanitation. Our trash is always picked up right on time and he never leaves anything behind. After all my neighbors' trash is "picked up," often items are strewn by the road and the cans are either left in the road or fallen in or beside the road. Get rid of the big company and move to Deep South, if you want true customer service!

Over 150 applicants applied for the handful of teaching jobs in Lowndes County. Plus, almost every single paraprofessional is a certified teacher who has been waiting patiently, “doing their time.” And, Lake Park Elementary hires a teacher who has quit, not once, but twice before. The "good ole' boy" network at its finest.

Have we progressed to the point where we are arguing about gay marriage? I thought the South was still outraged about blacks being able to marry whites! Hmm...We will catch up to the rest of the world eventually.

I found the cartoon referencing Tim Tebow's Christianity on Thursday's editorial page very offensive. I can agree that many people are out for what God can do for them, not how they can serve God, But I do not see any evidence of that attitude or life style in Tim Tebow's life. Time will tell.

Good riddance to the doctor unable to take Medicaid patients?! Do you work for free? I bet you go to work and expect a paycheck. Why would the doctor be any different? Blame our fearless leaders, not the doctors. And you are WAY out of line questioning whether that person is Christian or not. Sounds like the person who thinks preachers should work for free.

Amazing: Even a judgmental person like yourself can’t even bother to get the facts straight before you criticize something. Jason Collins did an extremely brave thing by coming out in a world filled with people such as yourself. Words of Wisdom: Leave the judging to God.

Raves to Mrs. Kay and Mrs. Sylvia at Cook Primary! They have the best behaved class and are the best teachers in that school!

To all who use Coleman Road as a short cut between Old Highway 41 North and North Valdosta Road, please remember the speed limit is 35, not 65. Tailgating me isn’t going to make me go faster. Remember, it’s our neighborhoods, not your short cut!
