Rant and Rave for Wednesday, April 11, 2012

VALDOSTA — On any given Saturday in South Georgia, many runners are out supporting their local charities by running a 5K or 10K. However, I only occasionally see photos and results from any of these races. Would it kill the VDT to run a few more photos of these races —maybe make one of the football, baseball or basketball photos smaller?

If you can give an animal a good, caring home, please adopt one from the animal shelter. There are so many and they need you, not to be put to death. Please!

Why did Berrien let go of another football coach a few weeks ago?

Listen people, if the county recycling centers are closed, take your trash back home! Center hours and days of operation are clearly posted at each site. Holiday schedules are posted at the entrance to each site as well. If you continue to throw trash over the fence, you will get caught, so beware.

To the person in the white truck throwing garbage over the fence at the Mineola site, I just want to tell you that I got your tag and it won’t be long before you get a visit from code enforcement.

The Affordable Health Care Act does not allow capitalistic competition to continue. It limits charges and undermines prices to such an extent that private insurance cannot compete with it, which will result in a single payer system eventually. It also requires the purchase of a product, something the federal government cannot do constitutionally.

Broccoli is a good thing. But if the federal government forced you to purchase broccoli, would you be happy? If you refused to buy broccoli and the government then fined you for your refusal, would you be happy? That is part of the debate about the socialistic health care plan.

We still have some good, caring, loving people in this world. I have been in the hospital several times at SGMC and there is a young lady named Shalanda Young, who is the team leader for the phlebotomists. She is a sweet and loving young lady. She has excellent customer service skills and she goes above and beyond her job duties. Keep up the good work!

Be happy for that small increase in salary. Lowndes County cuts mine every year.

Dear people that like to walk slowly in the middle of parking lots while cars are lined up behind you — move! Thank you.

Make all politicians work for minimum wage and see how fast they make changes.

Over 150 applicants applied for the handful of teaching jobs in Lowndes County. Plus, almost every single paraprofessional is a certified teacher who has been waiting patiently, “doing their time.” And, Lake Park Elementary hires a teacher who has quit, not once, but twice before. The "good ole' boy" network at its finest.

Have we progressed to the point where we are arguing about gay marriage? I thought the South was still outraged about blacks being able to marry whites! Hmm...We will catch up to the rest of the world eventually.

I found the cartoon referencing Tim Tebow's Christianity on Thursday's editorial page very offensive. I can agree that many people are out for what God can do for them, not how they can serve God, But I do not see any evidence of that attitude or life style in Tim Tebow's life. Time will tell.

Good riddance to the doctor unable to take Medicaid patients?! Do you work for free? I bet you go to work and expect a paycheck. Why would the doctor be any different? Blame our fearless leaders, not the doctors. And you are WAY out of line questioning whether that person is Christian or not. Sounds like the person who thinks preachers should work for free.

Amazing: Even a judgmental person like yourself can’t even bother to get the facts straight before you criticize something. Jason Collins did an extremely brave thing by coming out in a world filled with people such as yourself. Words of Wisdom: Leave the judging to God.

Raves to Mrs. Kay and Mrs. Sylvia at Cook Primary! They have the best behaved class and are the best teachers in that school!

To all who use Coleman Road as a short cut between Old Highway 41 North and North Valdosta Road, please remember the speed limit is 35, not 65. Tailgating me isn’t going to make me go faster. Remember, it’s our neighborhoods, not your short cut!

I hope Al Sharpton finds time to visit the mother in Brunswick whose baby was shot point blank in the forehead while in his baby stroller. Perhaps the reverend could also counsel the angry young black man who pulled the trigger. Oh wait, the baby was white. Never mind.

I thought that all schools had dress codes that the teachers and substitutes had to follow? When I walk into the school it looks like they are headed to the pool instead of the classroom. Tank tops and skimpy skirts are not allowed. Come on, administration, make them follow the rules. Thank you, to the teachers and staff that do adhere to the dress code.

Property tax should be based on value. School taxes should be separate and assessed to each household equally, no exemptions. The rich, middle and poor should pay equally for children's public education.
