Rant & Rave for Friday, Oct. 12, 2012

-- — Really, luck or skill is what you think it came down to in the football game. Last year it was an offside kick and this year a field goal. Who really cares how the team scored? You have poor sportsmanship. There are more important things in life than luck or skill at a football game! Get a life. Both teams always play their best.

I have found absolutely nothing wrong with the smart meters.

With all the pros/cons on public and private schools, I have experienced both with my child. I removed him from public school so he would have better influences in private school. Little did I know 75 percent of the kids in the private high school where he went to were troubled teens. They were not the "goody two shoe rich kids." They were normal every day "public" school kids in a different environment.

Clay Dorminy at Piggly Wiggly in Adel is the best! He ordered and stocked an item for my mother that even WalMart doesn't carry! Thanks!

Our "smart meter" has been in use for a while now. We have no problems.

Screaming kids at the doctors’ offices are the result of not being able to discipline your children in public because people call the law. Children are running all over parents nowadays. You wouldn't have any of this non-sense 20 years ago.

It is against GHSA rules for a band to play during live play. LHS gets called because they are breaking a rule. The coach tells them to do this. Great sportsmanship, Coach!

I would vote for a new library to replace the antiquated old one. I would vote against a new city auditorium: we already have a relatively new civic center. Why not let each project stand alone in a SPLOST vote for only one year, then move on to the next project for one year? Lumping all the projects together results in my "no" vote.

Bands are supposed to play during live-ball situations, and Lowndes always goes over the line. It's just not good sportsmanship.

If you truly feel unsafe where you vote, vote early on Oak Street.

A ranter fussed because they feel they are judged by how well they maintain their neighborhood. That's always going to be true. Google "broken window theory.”

I would like to know more about the teachers taking bus tours to view students’ homes. Please tell me this does not really happen! I have nothing to hide but I do think it is a total waste of money.

Over 150 applicants applied for the handful of teaching jobs in Lowndes County. Plus, almost every single paraprofessional is a certified teacher who has been waiting patiently, “doing their time.” And, Lake Park Elementary hires a teacher who has quit, not once, but twice before. The "good ole' boy" network at its finest.

Have we progressed to the point where we are arguing about gay marriage? I thought the South was still outraged about blacks being able to marry whites! Hmm...We will catch up to the rest of the world eventually.

I found the cartoon referencing Tim Tebow's Christianity on Thursday's editorial page very offensive. I can agree that many people are out for what God can do for them, not how they can serve God, But I do not see any evidence of that attitude or life style in Tim Tebow's life. Time will tell.

Good riddance to the doctor unable to take Medicaid patients?! Do you work for free? I bet you go to work and expect a paycheck. Why would the doctor be any different? Blame our fearless leaders, not the doctors. And you are WAY out of line questioning whether that person is Christian or not. Sounds like the person who thinks preachers should work for free.

Amazing: Even a judgmental person like yourself can’t even bother to get the facts straight before you criticize something. Jason Collins did an extremely brave thing by coming out in a world filled with people such as yourself. Words of Wisdom: Leave the judging to God.

Raves to Mrs. Kay and Mrs. Sylvia at Cook Primary! They have the best behaved class and are the best teachers in that school!

To all who use Coleman Road as a short cut between Old Highway 41 North and North Valdosta Road, please remember the speed limit is 35, not 65. Tailgating me isn’t going to make me go faster. Remember, it’s our neighborhoods, not your short cut!

I hope Al Sharpton finds time to visit the mother in Brunswick whose baby was shot point blank in the forehead while in his baby stroller. Perhaps the reverend could also counsel the angry young black man who pulled the trigger. Oh wait, the baby was white. Never mind.

I thought that all schools had dress codes that the teachers and substitutes had to follow? When I walk into the school it looks like they are headed to the pool instead of the classroom. Tank tops and skimpy skirts are not allowed. Come on, administration, make them follow the rules. Thank you, to the teachers and staff that do adhere to the dress code.

Property tax should be based on value. School taxes should be separate and assessed to each household equally, no exemptions. The rich, middle and poor should pay equally for children's public education.
