The Valdosta Daily Times
I was in Nashville, Ga., yesterday and gas at the Flash Foods was $3.48! When I got back to Valdosta, it was still $3.64 here. Amazing!
This is a rant to the Valdosta public works official who thinks it is fine to shut down the sewage treatment plant to save money. There are countless people downstream in Florida who rely on untreated well water which is affected by water from the Withlacoochee and Suwannee river. I hope EPA fines give a reality check. This should be criminal and civil penalties.
Thumbs up for Chancellor Huckaby for speaking out against House Bill 512 which would allow guns on our campus. I have been working at VSU for more than 12 years. There has never been an issue with gun violence, but plenty with alcohol, drugs, and simple immaturity. Allowing students to carry weapons on our campus will not increase their personal safety but instead reduce it.
A grateful thank you to the flower lady at Harvey's on Madison Highway. Her sweet smile and happy manners helped this ol’ boy choose some gift flowers for his lady friends.
The release of 24 million gallons of raw sewage into the Withlacoochee was not an act of God, it was the unwise decision of our city officials. God sent the rain we so desperately needed, and our officials were not prepared because they had not built the berm back around the facility to prevent it being flooded.
No wonder children aren't respectful. Adults at church continue to chat loudly while someone is speaking to the group. It’s embarrassing when we have guests.
I'm getting sick and tired of losing money to furlough days. Education is so important but the county can't seem to find a way to work it out in the budget. Meanwhile, certain employees are getting raises and new cars every six months. Makes you scratch your head a little, huh?
It would be nice if the county had a fencing inspector for farmers, and there was a fine of some sort if fences aren't up to code. The number of cows that run loose on Spain Ferry and Old Quitman Road are ridiculous and dangerous. Something needs to be done before a motorist is hurt or killed.
People cannot even conduct their business, or have a meal for that matter, without answering their cell phone. What a rude society we have become.
