The Valdosta Daily Times
Yes, having a mother and a father is ideal, but what about those situations when a man (or a woman in some cases) is abusive to that child? Or a man has no desire to be in that child's life? How dare you judge me for being a single mom when you have no idea what my situation is. And a father figure doesn't have to be a "father," that could be filled by a grandfather or uncle. Or by two dads or two moms.
There are plenty of grown folks in this town that need to learn the basics: Please and thank you, smiling and greeting someone properly, and basic phone skills. I run into this on a daily basis with fellow "professionals" and I have to laugh when I think that my pre-schooler's manners are better than theirs.
I recently finished serving on the grand jury in Lowndes County and I wanted to thank all the men and women who serve our community as police officers. It was an educational experience and I have a new appreciation for all the officers. Thank you so much for what you do to protect our community.
Don't imply that it's always the woman's fault! Why doesn't "daddy" step up to the plate? If he didn't want children, he should have taken precautions like: vasectomy, abstinence, contraceptives. Take responsibility for your children — pay child support and be part of your children's lives. You helped make 'em so you help support 'em.
It must be easier to rant than rave. There are so many good people and things out there. Let's rave for a while. Smiles are contagious.
A big thank you, to the nice man who paid the remaining balance on my water bill in Hahira. It’s very nice to know there are good people left out there, even better that it truly helped my family.
About the ordinance on brown bagging at bars. Plenty of laws are already on the books to take care of problems. This is how our freedom is taken, one rule, one regulation, one ordinance at a time.
A word to the wise: For those who slap a candidate on the back and say,"I voted for you” after each election, a complete list is availble through the Board of Elections that shows who voted and who didn't. Moral of the story, they know the liars.
