Rant & Rave for Monday, March 4, 2013

-- — To everyone complaining about bad roads and sewage treatment plant issues, I say this: If you voted against SPLOST, sit down and shut up.

The "Super Speeder" law was highly publicized prior to implementation. If you received one of these tickets, it means you were going more than 15 miles over the speed limit or 80 on the freeway. Rather than blame someone else, be an adult and own up to it.

I am a regular viewer of Fox news too, but let's be careful. Credibility is not measured by ratings, but by accuracy. Sometimes truth can be very unpopular.

I'm sorry; could someone explain better to me the idea of an unfair playing field for jobs when you commit a crime at 17 in Georgia, but it's sealed in other states? That's the silliest thing I've ever heard. How about: don't commit a crime period and then you don't have to worry about it at all.

Arch-conservative publication Forbes ran an article saying Fox viewers are more poorly informed than people who watch no news at all. Use Internet search "forbes fox viewers.”

Why is it when someone passes away, grief is replaced by pure greed and downright selfishness? What do these families hope to accomplish by exhibiting this kind of stupid behavior? Nothing should be more important than family especially money and material possessions.

Sounds like some of the previous SPLOST funds should have been used to solve the 40-year-old problem at the Withlacoochee Wastewater Treatment Plant before now. The pending problems did not just happen after the “no” vote. Don’t blame the voters; it was all about how the funds were spent as evidenced here. Now, what about the $30-a-year Storm Water Fee each residential customer is paying now? Do the math and find the money.

People never remember the million times you helped them, only the one time you didn't!

Publix obviously has an efficient training program for its employees. They are always polite and helpful. The ones that aren't don't seem to stay too long. Many businesses in Valdosta could benefit from more employee training. And how about "you're welcome" instead of "no problem?"

As a retired teacher of 30 years, I can testify how some parents send    their children to school poorly clothed for a        cold day, as well as sick. "Well he didn't feel well, but I figured he'd get better."

Over 150 applicants applied for the handful of teaching jobs in Lowndes County. Plus, almost every single paraprofessional is a certified teacher who has been waiting patiently, “doing their time.” And, Lake Park Elementary hires a teacher who has quit, not once, but twice before. The "good ole' boy" network at its finest.

Have we progressed to the point where we are arguing about gay marriage? I thought the South was still outraged about blacks being able to marry whites! Hmm...We will catch up to the rest of the world eventually.

I found the cartoon referencing Tim Tebow's Christianity on Thursday's editorial page very offensive. I can agree that many people are out for what God can do for them, not how they can serve God, But I do not see any evidence of that attitude or life style in Tim Tebow's life. Time will tell.

Good riddance to the doctor unable to take Medicaid patients?! Do you work for free? I bet you go to work and expect a paycheck. Why would the doctor be any different? Blame our fearless leaders, not the doctors. And you are WAY out of line questioning whether that person is Christian or not. Sounds like the person who thinks preachers should work for free.

Amazing: Even a judgmental person like yourself can’t even bother to get the facts straight before you criticize something. Jason Collins did an extremely brave thing by coming out in a world filled with people such as yourself. Words of Wisdom: Leave the judging to God.

Raves to Mrs. Kay and Mrs. Sylvia at Cook Primary! They have the best behaved class and are the best teachers in that school!

To all who use Coleman Road as a short cut between Old Highway 41 North and North Valdosta Road, please remember the speed limit is 35, not 65. Tailgating me isn’t going to make me go faster. Remember, it’s our neighborhoods, not your short cut!

I hope Al Sharpton finds time to visit the mother in Brunswick whose baby was shot point blank in the forehead while in his baby stroller. Perhaps the reverend could also counsel the angry young black man who pulled the trigger. Oh wait, the baby was white. Never mind.

I thought that all schools had dress codes that the teachers and substitutes had to follow? When I walk into the school it looks like they are headed to the pool instead of the classroom. Tank tops and skimpy skirts are not allowed. Come on, administration, make them follow the rules. Thank you, to the teachers and staff that do adhere to the dress code.

Property tax should be based on value. School taxes should be separate and assessed to each household equally, no exemptions. The rich, middle and poor should pay equally for children's public education.
